  • Water in Catch Can

Anyone has water in their catch can. I opened mine after 2000kms and found to have a bit of water in it and only a little oil in the filter. I have been driving in quite a bit of rain now days and the vehicle parks outside. I'm guessing that it's from condensation in the engine and that its maybe a good thing ?

Yes, that's what they do. Extract anything that condenses or is not a vapour.

Yep, completely normal. Mine does it badly in cold weather. It’s just condensation. Just make sure you wash the bypass valve in the base of the filter if it’s a provent. This will stop it gumming up with a water and oil mix.

Thanks Daniel, how often should one empty the can or just leave it for its next service?

In winter, I empty mine every 2 months with minimal km. This is only because it catches a lot of water.
In summer, every 5000km is fine.
I have a provent 200 and so the outlet is quite low in the canister, this makes monitoring the levels a bit more important.
I also have a hose that fits into the hole in the base of the canister so I can blow a bit of air through the drain hose. I’ve found in cold weather the hose can become gummed up with the water mixture.

Good idea Daniel. Job for tomorrow I didn't think of clearing the valve by blowing back through the valve.
