  • 2024 Prado

Launch information out yesterday: https://www.drive.com.au/news/2024-t...rado-unveiled/ And some tech specs too: https://www.drive.com.au/news/2024-t...ff-road-specs/

Still unclear what will happen regarding the second fuel tank & rear-mounted spare wheel configuration. A single tank only may be a show-stopper for many.

A single tank or tank size 100l and below would be a show stopper.
combo of diesel and hybrid would be an issue too. Lot more complex for very little gain.
    petrol hybrid might be ok
paying extra for the above plus questionable looks might be better in person not sure.
the only positives over current model:
    33” tyre
    bit better multimedia
longer wheelbase and bit more room

If the tank size is only 100L (or 110L as I think I read), but there is room underneath for an additional third-party tank, than maybe not a show stopper.

I agree with the extra complexity from the hybrid probably not being worth it.

I love the looks. Not sure about other things, though.

I wouldn’t buy simply because of the hybrid setup. Everything else can be worked around or modified. I see no point in hybrids, go with diesel or electric or you just pay more maintenance on both systems.

Interesting that they chose NiMh batteries over Lithium for reliability..

I've been driving a few hybrids through work lately, Camry, Rav4 etc. My wife's 10 year old petrol Skoda Octavia, similar size, gives better fuel economy. Not sure what the tech is delivering.

if the spare tyre sit under cant see how you can fit 3rd party tank, unless you buy a steel rear bar with swing-out tyre holder.
110l in current 300 series cruiser, so thats probably the max capacity you can expect with tyre under.
110 might be ok for 80% , i like big tank, dont need to visit gas station that often, also can wait long enough to fill up at low price

For me - it's a huge shame about the Hybrid-only stance. It was never going to get the Landcruiser V6 in my opinion, but the overseas non-hybrid options I think would go well in Australia.
I just don't want a first generation hybrid with that extra complexity to deal with. I like the look. But............ Looks like my Prado owning days end when I sell what I have. Hopefully Toyota will reconsider the non-hybrid option in Australia. Shame - otherwise I'd be placing an order.

The 250 looks like a bigger/heavier vehicle, 33" wheels, small engine(s). designed to eventually replace the 300.
A hybrid is useless for my long off roading.
I'd be looking for a GVM Upgrade pre-rego and a much bigger fuel tank, in a no hybrid configuration for long range off-road traveling.
ARB mite have a bullbar in 6 months but the other specialised upgrades (ie GVM Upgrade, bigger fuel tank, wheel carrier) will be a year or more away from catching up.

I'm liking the new 76 Series wagon with a 2.8l engine/auto. Comes with 3.5t GVM from factory, and all the upgrades already exist for that body.

The hybrid utilising a NiMh battery which is very old technology rather than Lithium suggests that they have gone for reliability over efficiency. It seems that the use of a hybrid is primarily as a way to provide extra power when required in a fuel efficient way, and nothing to do with range.

It's interesting that NiMh batteries were chosen over Lithium ones.

Recently, I've been commuting to and from work in a hybrid Toyota Camry, Toyota Rav4, etc. My wife's 10-year-old, similarly sized, gasoline-powered Skoda Octavia gets better gas mileage. Confused by the technology's purported results. geometry dash

NiMh lifespan is max 5 years or less. Weight is significally heavier than Lithium. And it takes pace in a boot. Wonder how drawers will be installed on a top of the battery

it is not a hybrid, not sure if you have read the drive review (https://www.drive.com.au/news/2024-t...nge-australia/) , but below is cut&paste from that review ; The Prado will not be branded as a hybrid – and Toyota Australia's marketing materials refer to the system as "48-volt technology" – as "the engine and the electric motor [cannot] propel the vehicle together or independently," the company has previously said.

The fuel capacity alone makes the 250 of little interest to me, quite apart from the likely price. So it looks like I'll be keeping the venerable old 120-series with its 180-litre tanks until it falls apart, or until I am too old for road tripping. I reckon that fuel capacity has saved us large numbers of dollars over the time we have had the Prado - just for one example, we can get from Norseman to Ceduna without having to pay Eyre Highway fuel prices.
