  • 2016 150 series

Have found a nice 2016 diesel 150 I am thinking of buying. Haven't yet viewed but pics and history look solid. Since this is prior to the 2018 DPF fix would it be mad to buy? Looks the ideal car otherwise.

I.know there is a 10yr DPF warranty offered for it but am I setting myself up for a huge ballache once that's up?

The revised software and hardware are working fine.
DPFs have now been around since 2007 in different brands and are here to stay. The more data Toyota (and other brands) get, the more reliable they become. We run a Hino truck at work and it is rare it has a noticeable burn as the programming executes them in normal driving, Toyota owns Hino so one would expect Toyota to get to that same level of "performance" from their DPF systems.

Unless one wants to run an increasingly older pre-DPF vehicle you will end up owning a vehicle with a DPF and probably Ad-Blue if you want a diesel 4wd in Australia.

If you have a DPF issue Toyota replaces them with the latest and greatest. They know the early ones were crap and the replace them at no cost. It could well be that yours has been replaced. If it hasn't just mention white smoke and it is acting strangely. My 2016 had it replaced without question.

That's good to hear 404pug, good that they replaced it without fuss - thanks for the tip too! Going to see the car soon I'll keep you updated.

Are you on-selling the Red Adventure Wagon? I guess my old roof bars that I sold to you are going too
Good luck with the new vehicle.

                Hey
watsea , yes we got to a point where we didn't need 2 cars and wanted something a bit more economical and safe for our main car than a 90 with no airbags. Yes the bars went with the car but we definitely got some use from them including IKEA runs and camping trips.

Unfortunately the 90 is gutter mount so couldn't keep them for the 150. What's with the longitudinal bars on the 150 though! Can't imagine they'll be useful for much apart from another roof rack.

Before I sold those bars you, I tried to use the cross bars from the 90 series, and just get the mountings for attachment of the bars to the longitudinal bars of the 150 series. Unfortunately, the newer mountings would not fit the profile of the bars. Very similar looking, but a slightly smaller size in some of the profile and would not fit. So I had to buy new cross bars with the mountings. Hence the sale of the bars to you.

Good luck with your newer vehicle.

                      Thanks
watsea , it's annoying when they change designs like this and don't support the older ones.

150s with the 2.8l engine that were sold up till circa 2018-2019 (mine is a 2018) would have had their DPFs replaced by Dealers at some time. The owners would also have received a 10 year unconditional warranty on the new DPF assembly. Mine got replaced circa 2019 automatically at a service interval by my Dealer. I had to get Toyota Aust to confirm the warranty. The model you are looking at should be in the same boat.

Nice one, yes I've noticed it doing a couple of regens (easy to spot on the manual as it idles in neutral at 1200rpm during a regen) and seems fine.

MIne had been mostly dealer serviced so has probably been done at some point.
