  • The necessities on a rig

    Hey Guys,

My partner and I have been using the 120 alot more on the beach and out bush, we would like to have a decent setup for when we got out/camp the weekend.

    fIstly -

ive been looking at a 3inch lift with a diff raise, and decent shoes and tyres to go with it.
If the lift I'm buying (2nd hand) already has a previous engineering cert will I need one for mine?
will I also need to extend any lines??

    Secondly -

is there anything I could do to the motor to make it make reliable whilst giving it abit more power? I was thinking a Chip later down the line. Would a exhaust help?

    Thirdly -

I want a battery setup for electric side of things (fridge etc) but kinda lost on what I would need for a good setup. I already have secondry battery for under the bonnet and a 24v converter box, I have the wiring kit for the secondary battery but do I need anything else?

Lastly would are some good Gauges to run?
I have a piller pod ready to put in but can't come to a decision as to what one's!

Would love some feedback/suggestions as im open to any!

    Cheers Legends

Unless you plan to be forever climbing up rock shelves in the Alps 3" is overkill and will require engineering at great cost. The standard 50mm lift is both legal and practical. The best money you can spend will be on a good tyre pump and pressure gauge. Then do a proper 4x4 course. Plenty of info on here about how chips kill these motors.. A bigger exhaust
may release all of 3-4 kws..

I'd skip the 3" lift, as pug says go for the std 2" lift.
I'd skip the chip too. Reliability and squeezing more power out of the engine are opposing forces.

Your 120 will be at least 15++ years old.
If its been places and done stuff it will have accumulated metal fatigue around the shocker mounts, wheel bearings etc and worn bushings.
I would inspect and aim to do preventative maintenance before any long remote trip.

Buy a Scanguage III and have gauges to display ATF Temp, Load, B1S1 Exhaust Temp, Coolant Temp etc.
If you have a 1KD check the injector feedback values.
