  • ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

    Hi All

I was looking for feedback from anyone that has the current ARB 47 litre fridge.

I'm looking at buying one - mostly for bush and beach camping - and was looking for any first hand expereince.

    TIA

Re: ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

I know it's a bit late now Trev but yes I've got a 60ltr and it's been in 4 cars and never missed a beat. I only switch it on when necessary and have also used it indoors at Christmas time.
The only prob. I've had has been with a 12v power supply lead which somehow cooked itself at the supply end. I changed it with a spare I keep and no trouble since. I cleaned the damaged item up, repacked it in the spare leads packaging and got my money back although it was the original and so about 10 years old

Re: ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

Thanks Alan. I recently purchased the 47l and am very happy so far.

I've plugged it into the 100w inverter in the back of the 150 series a couple of times, with mixed success.
Sometimes it runs fine and sometimes not. I think this is definitely an issue with the inverter as it runs fine at home on 240v and also in car on 12v.

Only 'issue' is the adhesive on the Velcro strips on the cover didn't hold - I'll probable super glue the Velcro on or get some 3M or something.

One thing I have been searching for is whether anyone has successfully installed a fridge slide into a 150 series VX model without drawers or the 3rd row seats being removed.

Re: ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

I was going to make up a ply false floor using the rear rubber mat as the template, carpet it and fix it on to 6 points (3 per side) using rhino rack channel nuts in the vx rear rail and bolt through the ply. Then screw the fridge slide to the carpet base. You might need 12mm marine grade ply to get the thickness so that you can tech screw into this without hitting the oe seat top cover. That was until I decided to put in my draws.

My thought with the base was it would be easy to remove, strong enough to support my 50l Waeco and not stick out like a sore thumb as it would be carpeted. Hope that gives you some ideas Trev.

Re: ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

            G'day Trevc,
I dont know much about the inverter in the rear of the 150 but I would say that it doesnt have the capacity to power a fridge. Maybe only good for a phone charger or something. Its hardly worth having IMHO, you are better off with dual batteries and run some heavy guage cable for a dedicated fridge point in your cargo area.

Re: ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

It is an excellent fridge but it is worth spending the odd $30 and ask for an upgrade to the canvas cover, The velcro on the neoprene cover is a PITA

Re: ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

Ive had my 47ltr ARB fridge for 6 months now and it hasn't missed a beat i lives in my 90 series and runs 24/7 , on a fully charged 50 amp hour battery i get 2-3 days before ill have to start the truck or top up the Aux via battery charger, the only problem that i have ever heard about the fridge is that you cant adhere the Velcro properly, and to be honest i haven't even use mine as the metal tags on the canvas cover hold it on fine, oh and the drain hole is a god send

Also on a quick note arb are releasing smaller and bigger versions on this fridge soon 35ltr,60lt, and a 75ltr

The velcro is only an issue with the neoprene cover. The canvas bags have the metal clips and they work fine. Ans yes I agree on the drain plug. I've used it many times.

I have the canvas cover and it has the velcro on it, just what are the metal clips?

When I first got the fridge the velcro would not stick so took it back and ARB said there had been an upgrade and would replace the velcro under warrenty for me and since then the velcro has stuck.

The metal clips are near the control panel / handle.

I also have the Canvas cover with velcro and the velcro just won't stick...I'll have a chat to the boys down the local ARB and work out a solution.

Re: ARB Fridge - Have you got one?

I have no problems with the velcro on my cover as i have never taken it out of the plastic bag it came in, not even sure why i bought it in the first place. I have never really understood why they make these covers? if the fridge needs more insulation why not build it into the case in the first place rather than adding a cover?
i would probably sell my cover if some one was interested as i cant see myself ever putting it on.

I had mine 'thrown-in' with the fridge - I see it more as protecting the outer plastic from scratches etc. than for insulation per se.

Must have been an update on the canvas cover to try remedy the dodgy velcro, they are on each corner at the top of the main cover and wedge in between the metal chassis and the blue plastic they work a treat 8)
