  • A VERY Strange thing happened fitting a Snorkel

This one's a doosy, can only happen to me....
I was sitting in the local TJM store this morning making phone calls and catching up on some paperwork while I had my Snorkel fitted to Angus.

After about an hour the guy comes up to me and says "do you know your vehicle has been in an accident before?" I promply told him sorry wrong person, I own the white Prado. Soon realised it was MY Prado.

Went into the workshop and looked where he was having trouble fitting the snorkel piece between the inner and outer guards. The front inner guard was buckled near the large air filter hole.
IT CAN'T BE I kept saying. I picked it up in Feb 07 since new and it's never been in a bingle or anything.
Mmmmmmmmm.................... I took plenty of pics before he continued fitting the rest of the snorkel.

I do not know how/where this happened and with the massive wind and rain today I have not had a chance to look any further.

Here are some pics. They guys doing the install thought it had had a front ender. I think it looks like it may have been dropped off a jack or something and hit underneath (although I would expect more damage).
I have removed the airfilter to do my aux. battery install and never really noticed it then.

I know it's a bit hard from the few pics however any thoughts on this?

    Thanks, PeteS[/img]

    Far out Pete. That's scary.

You might accept something like that on a 2nd hand rig but yours is brand spankers. :?

Have you approached the dealer with a PLEASE EXPLAIN ?

    Good luck

    Cheers

Thanks Chippy. Haven't had time to ring let alone go back to the dealer. It's raining cats & dogs over our way and some of our local roads are cut etc. Even have a coal ship beached on one of our local beaches.

We "were" to pick up the spanking new KK today however we elected to try for the KK pickup tomorrow, hopefully the rain, wind & flooding will subside by then.

Rest assured i will be visiting the dealer after the long weekend.

      Very puzzling?

        Hi Matt
Cost of Airtec snorkel was $550 fitted (Geez I'm glad I didn't fit it myself now).

        TJM Hunter Valley (Newcastle)
        ring Grant Thompson
        Ph: (02) 4951 1184
130 Newcastle Road Jesmond NSW 2500
        [email protected]

Grant's an real nice guy. They did however put a scratch in Angus's front RHS guard (another drama I'm still getting over) :x They fessed up to it, I did not find it myself. They promised to fix it properly.

FYI Grant offered me a weeks free trial of a D-Chip however I'm more than happy at the moment with my D4D power and have higher $ priorities.

As to a a pic, well I don't have a waterproof camera (it's been p%#^sing down here all day) however I'm sure I'll find time tomorrow for a pic including one with our new KK.

        Cheers

          Thats nasty.
I hope the dealer can help you with it.
It does look like a jack or something, Possibly from the factory.

I did my own snorkel fit up and Im glad I had no complications like that.

          Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Now Pete, I'm starting to worry.

When you change your nic to Noah and start loading pairs of animals into the KK, I'm heading for higher ground.

Have you checked the fording depth on the KK - It sounds like you should have got the one with floatation tanks.

OK, it's out of my system now. Sounds like Grant at TJM is going to do the right thing - I hope your dealer is going to do the same.

            Cheers

I just got back from Newcastle (took 5 hours to get there this arv) - the place has now been officially declared a disaster area.

I've never seen anything like it - streets were littered with abandoned cars left in the middle of the road. It truly looked like something from a war zone like Iraq.

I got to give the car a good swim in several places, with water lapping over the front bullbar. The Prado is an absolute pearler in those conditions. I think I might have to name my rig "Flipper".

I tell you, it was enjoying itself so much (like a pig in poo), that I thought at one stage, it was going to sit up, clap its doors together and spit water at the other cars...

Cruisers and Patrols were literally turning back or stalled. Unbelievable. A guy in a Mitsubishi Wanker (sorry I meant Pajero) with a snorkel looked like he was going to go for it in a particularly deep section and then suddenly stopped and turned around. Instead the Prado swam like Kieran Perkins going for gold.

Made me think real hard about that bloody snorkel though... :?:

Pete, as to your predicament, rather than pussyfooting with the dealer, I would think about having your solicitor write to them to put the matter on the record and leave it open for them to resolve amicably - just my two bob's worth...

                That's amazing G-man.

Tell you what - no rain for 7 years - but when it does it really lets go.

My driving tip would be - keep your lights on

                But seriously - stay safe.

                Cheers

Man it's still windy & rainy here. We have had no power since Friday night at 9pm. I'm currently sitting here via a connection on my 3G phone and our generator. The foul weather has not let me do any investigation on the damage found during the snorkel install.

We picked up our KK today. We have called her Moo. For those who know my last name it would be obvious with the Bovine connection names of Angus & Moo. Lucky we did the 3 hour run down with the dealer on Friday as when we picked her up early this morning the dealer was closing their shop because their offices were under a foot of water. They lost computers, carpets etc.

I will post some pics Angus & Moo when we get back on full 240v power.
                  Cheers

It's an off road van but my backyard is higher than the roof on our house so I think I'll give it a miss

Before I run out of power and bandwidth I have posted some pics of Angus & Moo taken in between the rain & wind.

Here's our new baby that took 28 weeks from order. This is in travel mode (roof not raised).

The happy couple, Angus and Moo. Angus has about 25-30mm rear end sag and Moo's empty

                            That does look pretty good.
But anything looks good behind the automotive elle Macpherson that is the Toyota Prado.

                            Very nice.
