  • Fox Wing vs Supa Wing

    Hey lads and chicks,

I'm new here so forgive me if I screw up with something. Have searched many posts but haven't found any info on the Supa Wing awning and just wondering if anyone actually owns one that could comment. Have seen several on the foxwing and appears that everyone that has one is happy with it (except for the price), well guess what, the Supa wing is even more expensive but is fully Aussie made.

Just chasing some actual first hand knowledge if there is any. Have only read one other person (in a pajero forum of all places) that has one and the comment was positive.

Also have loved reading about all the build ups and accessories that people have made and has given me motivation to get off my ass and get into action, which has been great. Not so great for all the projects the missus has lined up though.

    Cheers
    Dubbo

Re: Fox Wing vs Supa Wing

Having destroyed three foxwings my view is that it is a great concept spoiled by poor execution. The area it covers by design is great but the windage of that surface area is where the risk is. Lack of a decent overlapping vent to allow wind to escape means that unless you have got the thing very securely pegged down then you stand a strong chance of breaking it. Sparrow farts are lethal

So whilst we love it for its capability we have moved back to a rear and side awning made for us by Polaris wo deliver great product at an excellent price and quality

    Regards

Yeah though the wind would be a fairly big issue.

      Thanks RobA

Supa Wing appears to be much stronger at the main pivot point.

Re: Fox Wing vs Supa Wing

I've also had my foxwing turn inside out due to my own error and not following the correct procedure. The result was a bent roof-pole and two broken knuckles. Not my knuckles, but rather the knuckle joints of the foxwing where it pivots.

What I learned was that it was very cheap and easy to repair. The total cost to replace two poles with attachments was just $54. It was a very simple diy, which I felt was testimony to it's good design.

So despite my mishap, I still love using the foxwing and recommend it to others who inquire.

What is the difference in weight and price of the two products?

Re: Fox Wing vs Supa Wing

I'm following this thread as I'm looking into getting an awning myself.
I was leaning towards the side only awning over the Foxwing but with the new price ($750) plus I've been told all the poles will now be integral its looking like the way to go.

LF&R comments are good to see.

            Thanks, Lee

Shaker, Is this just an observation from pictures or have you actually seen any? I haven't as yet hence the thread, as I am in country qld and will still be a while before I am in the big smoke to look at any.

Thanks also to LF&R - The supa wing at the comparable length 2.5m vs foxwing 2.4m covers 12.3M3 in area vs 10m3 for the foxwing. Supawing also say they have heavier duty canvas. Both have a 2yr warranty. Foxwing quote 18kg for thier awning vs 14.1kg for the supawing, so not quite sure on this one, as being slightly bigger and heavier canvas I would have expected a heavier weight.

The clincher is an extra $500 on top of the foxwing.

Just had a look at that one. Looks good but the price....... $1000 seemed a bid steep.

I am hoping to find a 2.5m side awning that does NOT need poles and has side accessories so it doubles as a tent at night. Hannibal do this but I'm out of gold mines to sell as was hoping there was an alternative.

Haven't seen any other awning manufacturer than Hannibal that do them MLC....
I have the Supa-Peg Stand Easy deluxe (side) awning, and love it. Yes, it's a little more expensive than the others, but they are Australian owned and manufactured and is made with Aust made Dyna proof canvas. All round its a good, solid product and I'm sure the Supa-Wing would be the same for anyone who's considering buying one and wants to buy Australian made.
