WARNING WARNING There is a prado 04 Grande gold in colour on carsales.com.au advertising for $27,300 with 130k on the clock in immaculate condition blah blah blah, this add is a scam, the vehicle is not for sale, I have reported it to carsales, as I made an enquiry about it and got 2 emails from two different people, different email addresses, as far as I know they are going to delete the add from the addvertising on the web. I know people on here from pradopoint would not be stupid enough to put money in the requested bank accout but just incase possibly there are some people who have no idea of this sort of stuff going on daily and could be cought out.............As they say, ""If its true good to be true then that is genrally a warning some things not right"" Regards Steve M

LOL, if you ever watch Today Tonight (on here in Sydney) its amazing how many people buy vehicles presumably from other states and even here in NSW off the internet just going by the pictures and things and deposit large sums of money into other peoples bank accounts expecting everything to be mickey mouse. I flew from here to Melbourne to look at a cruiser, looked great in the photos, spent 2 weeks emailing/phone calls etc then flew there with $$$ in my pocket, thing was a total bucket of crap so I flew back home again. Ok this vehicle was actually for sale but could quit easy have been a shonky set up and he would have had 28g in his account had it been some one else. Amazing with all this technology that things like this cant be chased back to the person/s invloved. Regards Steve

Thank you for getting back to me. I wil clear that for you, I am Andrew, the car is mine. I have asked a friend, Steve to create the add because I was very busy last week. He used his name to publish the ad, but with my email address.

I dont have much experience with selling cars and I would feel more comfortable doing this transaction through eBay. They are offering assistance and protection both for seller and buyer. The car is not currently on ebay, I will list it only if we will reach a deal.

At the time I was listing the car on carsales I was back home, but since then my plans and my situation have changed. I am a marine biologist and I got a job for the University of Tasmania. I applied for the job a few weeks ago I wasn't expecting a positive result. I am now in Hobart, Tassie working on a project for the university in Tasman Island. We are studying the aquatic biodiversity in the Tasman Sea and the project will continue for the next 5 months.

The car is also here in Hobart, in the warehouse at the shipping company, ready to be delivered to the next owner. I know that the situation may seam a little bit strange and you did not expect this, but there is nothing I can do about it. If you want to inspect the car I will gladly arrange that but you will have to travel here. Alternatively, if you agree to follow the buyer protection program from ebay, I can get everything ready and the car can be delivered to your place with no extra cost for you.

If you agree to proceed with the transaction I will list the car on ebay, with the buy now option. Of course we will agree upon the price and other details before that. After you will use the buy now option, the car will be delivered to you by the shipping company and you will have 5 days inspection period, while you'll be able to see and inspect the car before buying it. If you won't like the car after you will receive it or if you will decide that it is not like described, you can reject the deal (but I'm sure you will love it).

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know about the car and if you are ready to proceed with the transaction.

Still sounds suss to me, guess you need to follow the number 1 rule of car buying, which is "NEVER BUY A VEHICLE WITHOUT FIRST SEEING IT".

Will be interesting !!!! I have sent an email asking is it ok for me to come and have a look at the prado in Hobart, have asked him for an address and an appropriate date and time to meet him ????? Will see what reply I get back.... (can I just say I have no intention of buying,looking etc, the whole thing is suss). Wonder if I forwarded onto police wether they could do anything ?? First thing would be check the rego plate and go from there i suppose. Regards Steve M

Firstly, ebay do not offer vehicle protection in Australia.

Please Note: As of 11:59:59 PM November 22nd, 2009 (AEDST) the Vehicle Purchase Protection (VPP) program will no longer be offered on eBay.com.au. Vehicles purchased after this date will not be covered by VPP.

Secondly, as soon as you offer to inspect the vehicle in person, the buyer disappears. These adverts always involve amazing co-incidences for why the seller has to have the vehicle shipped to you, usually at no cost to you. Sounds amazing if you really want that car, but most people want to actually see and drive a car before they buy it. Even if you are in a different city, usually you can find someone to go look at it, so their hit rate must be pretty low.

Thanks for the clarifacation on the name issue. Was wondering when I would be able to come and inspect the vehicle ?? I am in Sydney so would appreciate if you could let me know ASAP so I can organize my flight, if vehicle is suitable then I will ship it back with me and I will hand the cash over to you so avoids any problems that could arrise from bank transactions or paypal issues (better off with cash in your hand arent you ??) Also would appreciate if you could send the chassis and engine number to me so I can arrange insurance for the vehicle and also a copy of current rego papers might be easier has all these details on there. I wont be able to get insurance without these details. Your help would be appreciated. Regards Steve

When I was looking for a Motorcycle I found a really cheap one online. I emailed the seller and got nearly the exact email you have got except he said the bike was in a Darwin warehouse at the shipping company. I new it was dodgy so I told him I had a friend in Darwin and can I arrange for him to inspect it for me. He replied "I am currently on a boat out at sea for 6 months and can't arrange for anyone to see the bike" He then went on to say "If you make a payment of $2000 into my PayPal account I can get them to ship it to you for inspection and if you don't want it to send it back and I will refund you the $2000" I sent back "SCAM" and never heard from him again. I know of a couple of people at work that have had similar experiences and the seller always has the item at a transport warehouse ready to be sent and he is always unavailable to see you in person. If you play along with these scams they always end up needing a deposit or for you to pay for the item first for one reason or another.
