Re: WARNING ON SALE OF PRADO

You can tell they are scams a lot of the time by the way they put their sentences together. Its a bit like they used a dodgy translator or something, its like when you buy something made in China or Japan and the instructions don't make sense.

Example: This is the instruction on the back of the box to adjust the flame of a cigarette lighter I received for Christmas

" Turn the regulator a small flat screwdriver. If you turn clockwise the flame will be lower, turn opposite direction will be higher. Take notice of that,to avoid the fire hurt body, please don't turn the regulator more than 30 degree once."

I had to laugh. No one wants to get "fire hurt body"

Re: WARNING ON SALE OF PRADO

Too true, but sellers also need to be aware. I have just sold my 120 on Carsales but I had several scammers contact me. Here is what one sent me after I emailed him details of my vehicle.
"thanks for mailing back,am ok with the price and the condition,am
buying it for my vacation, because i'll be coming soon from our rig as
am a petroleum engineer on a rig offshore,i won't be able to come for
the inspection due to the nature of my work,i would have love to call
in person but our satellite server has been down which restrict our
calls.i will be paying you through PayPal,pls get back to me with your
PayPal details so i can proceed with the payment and contact the
courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in my place.
        Await your reply."
Carsales warn about enquiries from gmail and hotmail addresses which this was.

Re: WARNING ON SALE OF PRADO

A mate at work nearly fell for a similar scam about a Monaro, same story, it was in a storage shed in Darwin, owner was in Tasmania. Car was cheap beacause it was a messy Divorce and she did not want hubby to find out she sold his car.
He nearly fell for it until we talked him around.

If it sounds too good to be true It probably isn't.!!!!!

Well spotted chriso, I think it is a legit sale though, just through a dealer so the price is high.

Yeah normally if there dodgy adds the price is generally to good to be true and you cant see the vehicle because the owner is out at sea or not available only by email but is at the shipping terminal ready to be shipped out to you once you have paid your money. Yeah right !!!! Regards Steve

Funny thing is I did a Victorian roads check using that chassis number and it comes up with exact details been right ??? You can do yourself and double check it, How the hell would he have got the chassis number correct ??
EDIT: Sorry only found page 2 of this thread after typing this!!

So we all know (hopefully) that this guy/gal doesn't have this car in their possession but it does actually exist, somewhere. The scammer has got the details somewhere,
gone to a shopping centre and taken photos? recorded vin and plates
                        on the internet?
from an ancient for sale ad?

It is a legitimate vehicle somewhere on VIC plates... the owner probably has no idea

I sold an EH Holden on ebay, it was very popular to my delight. A week later someone had reproduced the item on ebay using all my pics and text trying to rush some money out of someone who missed out on it, seller had good feedback and all that as the scammer had hacked into someones account.

This is one reason why people should obscure their plates in photos on the net, for this scam they need the vin aswell to produce the same level of authenticity but I'm sure I could produce several Prado for sale ads from material on here, short of the VIN obviously.. i'm sure someone is talking about vin numbers somewhere here.

It is bordering on the Darwin theory for someone to get stung by this but if you keep the scam in mind before posting a dead ringer "for sale" style picture on the net you might save some poor bastard one day.
