Can anyone recommend somewhere in Brissy (preferably south side) that stocks the ram mounts.

And anyone with the floor mount option, how much does it get in the passengers way

Got my floor /seat rail RAM mount from eBay.
All the way from the USA in less than a week.

      Minimal intrusion for the passenger.

It does wobble about a little when the ipad is attached - I have used some Velcro near the top of the rod and braced it to the dash near the ashtray - much better.

I ended up purchasing the Hema app for my iPad mini & iPhone today for $104... Hema have a special on for Father's Day and are doing the app for $129.99 - Myer are doing a Father's Day special on iTunes Gift Cards of 20% off. So it costs $104 to buy 2 x $50 and 1 x $30 iTunes cards. Loaded them into my iTunes, and the app is on it's way down now. I loved the free Memory Map app, but only had the free 250K map, so this should give me a more up-to-date one, and some better maps in localised areas when I go on a trip. With Fraser Island on the cards, it's perfect timing.

Thanks Dan, still keen for photos as I haven't done anything about this yet. I normally just wedge it into the sun visor , it will stay there until you hit a decent bump, then it falls down and scares the shit out of me.....

The iPad mini is connected via a USB cable to the front of the stereo. The music runs through that and uses the "iPod" function on the pioneer. The iPhone is connected via Bluetooth. I can stream music via bluetooth as well. If I do a bigger trip, then I run a GPS62 hand held to the right of the steering wheel as backup. I also run a small go-pro type camera (You can see the mark on the glass) up near the rear vision mirror... I can occasionally still see out of the windscreen The photo1 is taken from the back seat, so it's not as in the way as it seems

The advantage of setting it up like this is that I can be listening to music while the maps are tracking me on the screen. Then if I get a phone call, it mutes the music and the handsfree kicks in. As soon as the call finishes, the music starts again.

I'm sure there's a better way to do it, but this works perfectly for now.

                    • I also got the Hema app up (As you can see on the screen) and running today and transferred all my track logs & marks from Memory Map over to the iPad & iPhone. It was really simple using iTunes. Just go to the "Apps" tab for the device and select Memory Map. All the gpx files appear on the right. Just highlight the ones you want, and click the "Save To" button. Select the location & save the files. You then click on Hema on the left and on the right hand side click on the "Add" button. Browse to the files, select them all, and upload them.

The final trick is to go into the Hema app, to the track/mark area and press the "Menu" button, then "Load Saves Data". You select the file from the list and it loads in. Repeat for each file.

                      • The reason Memory Maps and the Hema App can easily transfer GPX files between each other etc is that the Hema App is Memory Maps with the Hema skin

Yep. I wasn't sure if the app would use the same base file structure & automatically pickup the files. But it seems it doesn't, so they had to be transferred across.

You can use any GPX files with the Hema/MemoryMap. Just save the tracks as a standard GPX format then either upload the file into the app through the steps I posted before, or email it to your iPhone/iPad and open it in the app (press & hold on the attachment and select the app you want from the pop up menu)

                          • Does anyone have a mini iPad mounted in front of the screen in the new shaped Prado. I don't want to put another suction cup on the windscreen as I won't be able to see out of it

                            • We've used a RAM Mount that uses the front right mounting bolt of the passenger seat:
                              https://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM/ram-316-1au/

It works fairly well. The pole "wobbles" a fair bit - I need to go back to Johnny Appleseed and get them to check it - but it holds it well enough.

We tried a windscreen mount but found the new dash doesn't really work with it. The tablet blocked the stereo and air vents plus a lot of the road - the centre bit is just too high.

                              • Hi guys,
Thought i would put my 2 bobs worth. I also looked at the mount that bolts to the seat mount and found it wobbled to much as well. I decided to make my own out of some scrap steel i had lying around. This is solid as a rock and with the RAM mount being able to be unscrewed and put away when not in use it,s great. I normally just spin it into place when i'm not using it and can still get to the 2 way, 4wd lever etc.Click image for larger version

I now have a lifeproof cover on the ipad air which also has a cradle to suit both the ipad and the RAM mountings. Keeps the windscreen clear.Click image for larger version
