Well I finally managed to get a hold of the sales manager for this unit which is called the Road Rover. She has given me a price of USD$650.00 per unit which includes the Australian map. She went on to say:

It is with 7''touch screen and intergrade Navigation,DVD,Bluetooth,Radio,MP3/MP4 and Games into one unit,as it is special for vehicle,so it can connect with the original plug and harness directly to be installed without modification.
    Hi Mav
I would be pretty interested in this unit, especially if it runs win CE and I could run OZI on it.
A couple of questions come to mind that you might know the answer to.
    1. Is there enough room in the internal memory to load Ozi?
    2. Will it interface (or are they developing one) in to the steering wheel controls on the update Prado?
    3. Is the GPS input a USB one, or something else?
    4. What mapping data does it use? What about updates?
    5. Is that data kept on a DVD or inside the unit?
    6. Can it be set to automatically go to rearview camera mode when in reverse?
    7. How much is the digital TV upgrade?
    8. Are the stackers it interfaces to available in Australia?

I don't know the answers to these questions myself but I will ask the manufacturer for you and list the reply when I get it.

Okay I have had a response back from the manufacturer and this is what they have said.

1.The internal memory capacity of our RoadRover device is 128M NAND Flash and 32M Nor Flash.

2.Our Prado device has the steering wheel control feature already.

3.Now our unit have GPS built-in already,so there isn't any GPS input, you only need to connnect with the GPS antenna.

4.We are cooperating with a professional map software company named Route66 who use Naviteq map data, and when it needs to be updated, the software company will inform us and give us a public website to update after payment.

5.The map software is in DVD,but it have to be installed on SD card then insert the SD card into our unit.Usually we will preinstall the map software for clients.

6.Our device support to connect with the rearview camera and it will switch to the its mode automatically when you're backing.

7.Now,we don't have digital TV built-in,but we have researched the digital TV box with DVB-T standard which will ask for USD50 for the cost.

8.I'm sorry I don't understand what is "Are the stackers it interfaces to available in Australia" meaning? Could you kindly advice, thank you.

I have sent them a more defined question for them to answer

          9.Here is our production warranty:

(a)The company warrants that its products are free defects in material and workmanship for one year. Subject to the conditions and limitations set forth below. The company will at its option, either repair or replace any part of its products that prove defective by the company on an exchange basis, and will be either new or refurbished to be functionally equivalent to new.

          (b) This warranty does not cover any damage to this product that results from accident, abuse, misuse, natural or persoanl disaster,or any unauthorized disassembly, repair or modification.

          (c) The shipping fee will be beared by each other for 50%.

I am considering getting one of these as a test unit as it has Satnav I can claim it against my tax as a tool of trade due to my work being a field service engineer and needing to get to customer sites.

Looks good to me !! Chrismas Pressie !!

Based on those answers I would like one as well. Might be worth while seeing how many want one and you might get a bit better price.
If you get a few sent together though they will attract GST, but as individual packages they should not (It just depends on postage costs as well and see which way is cheaper )

Not sure about ordering a heap of them as that will definitely incur the GST and not sure what other import duties would be levied as they would obviously be for resale. I am wondering if they will accept a group buy and we could each pay them and have them ship out individually. They seem pretty receptive of a single purchase order at the moment.

I had them give me a quote on one unit and for a hundred units and I can tell you that there is only a saving of USD$20 between the two prices.

As far as other import duties, it depends what they are catagorised at through customs, and that depends what they put on the invoice. Most of the electronic gizzmos don't attract anything other than GST (Where I used to work we imported heaps of that sort of stuff)
If they could send them individually that would be great, but they might want I lump payment, which I guess could be worked out.

I thought of another question to ask

While it is running CE on it, is it possible to load something else on there (Ozi Explorer) You need some sort of keyboard interface to register Ozi after it is loaded and don't need one any other time, but is that possible with the unit.
Also what about a button on the screen that says Ozi? in other words how would we get into it?
If it is difficult if we send Ozi and the install code over, can they put it on?

You can always ask for a really good price on a few "samples" to have a look at before buying "hundreds" You never know....

This unit is exactly the same as the one supplied by VMS http://www.vmscarpc.com.au. They want $2695 for theirs  but it does do...

.DVD, Mpeg4, Divx(to be supported soon - although I reckon it will still work if they have an .avi extn)
.MP3 & WMA including album art
                  .Bluetooth
                  .Photo Viewer
.Inbuilt GPS with Voice Guidance - Navteq Mapping on 1GB SD
.OziexplorerCE already loaded - load your own topo maps or purchase from a multitude of places or create your own
.SD Card slot (SDHC - up to 32GB) for maps, mp3's, avi's, photos etc.
                  .Rear View Camera Input
                  .Touchscreen
                  .AM/FM Radio
.AV input (Any external AV source such as Digital TV etc can be inputed)
.Dual zone operation...GPS on main screen, DVD on rear (Kids) Screen(s)
                  .Toyota harness adapter available too
.Prado 120 mount kit for professional finish
.USB port for usb Flash Disk or USB hard Drive or USB Mouse/Keyboard

                  VMS user manual - http://www.vmscarpc.com.au/content/s...s/IDP-2265.doc

Gives a good insight into this units abilities...

Really its got everything, its just the VMS price thats a sticking point :!:

Now the interesting thing is that the 120 Prado model 2270 is listed on the VMS site under manuals, but there are no actual active links to the manuals. Perhaps they intend to import this one too. The page can be found here http://www.vmscarpc.com.au/content/s...uals/main.html

What sort of price can we get from your supplier?

                  Thanks in advance

                    Stormy,

I must make it clear that I am not running a business and I am, like everyone else, trying to find the best solution to get for my Prado that wont need me to auction a kidney to get it.

I have asked the manufacturer all the questions you and Bitdist have put to me and I am waiting for a reply from them, once I get it I will post it up in this thread. I also wanted to know if the unit can do navigation and play DVD movies at the same time as this to me is essential.

The price I have been given is USD$650.00 per unit but the digital TV box with DVB-T standard would be an extra USD$50. At todays exchange rate that would equate to A$710.00 plus shipping cost for the main unit and an extra A$55.00 plus shipping cost for the DTV tuner box.

The USD$650.00 price includes the route66 software and Australian mapping software from Navteq.

Tha is all the info I have at the moment, as I have said I am researching this product for my own use and at the end of the day if I find something better then I could just as easily go for it instead.

Stormy I agree after looking at the manual for the VMS unit that the Roadrover is the same unit however I think that VMS have added some functionality to it in regards to Oziexplorer.

I noted this sentence from their manual which leads me to think that not all their systems are capable of running Oziexplorer:

Topographical GPS System installed & ready to use. (IDP2265 only)

Yep Looks like they have, but it may be as simple as loading OziCE onto the unit somehow & going from there. All the settings required are mentioned in the VMS topographical manual.

I wonder if its that simple though since VMS wants $2695 & the unit itself will only be around $800AU.

Also you were wondering about the DVD & GPS at the same time.....yes it does. I saw a demo & the GPS runs in the background all the time, so even if your watching a DVD it is still active. Also you can switch the DVD to the rear screens (extra cost for screens) & have the GPS display on the front at the same time.

To me it looks like the ideal product. Just hoping that there may be a cheeper way to get to the same end.

Thanks Mav for your enquiries to date.

                          This is the A2270P

The logo in the middle has definately sold me on this unit.

                          Also like the fit.

Apparently you can attach a hard disk - found this on a spanish prado forum......

Good day,it is nice to hear from you,
I'm sorry there is something wrong with my email account for last week,so I can’t send out any email.
First, I would like to give you more information on your last email as follows:

1.I'm sorry TOMTOM can't be compatible our device because it is based on ARM architecture, but ours is based on MIPSII,but OZI software can run our device, once you buy the liscence from them, then we also can add it into our unit as we have added it for some of our other customers already.

We didn't try to test "CompreGPS",if it was also based on MIPSII or support MIPSII,then it has possibility to run in our device as well.It is appreciated that you can supply us some information on it.

2.Now our device can't connect the external device like PDA.

3.The limit size of memory for SD slot can be over 4GB.

4.It is possible to connect some hard disk, but not for all hard disk because of the voltage.

5.At present it can't play DIVX files as they are lack of license now,but if you start order,we also can try to buy it.

6.Yes,now the RDS is available, but I'm sorry TMC isn't ready as we can't get the information from control station,so it is hard for us to debug it.

7.When our softare has updated,we will inform our clients, but if it is related hardware like we need to add chip inside, the shipping charge and the import tax here will be beared by the clients if they want to upgrade.

8.Now we don't use speed pulse,as we are using NAVMAN GPS chip,SIRFIII core which has high sensitivity -159dBm.
                          9.Here is our production warranty.

(a)The company warrants that its products are free defects in material and workmanship for one year. Subject to the conditions and limitations set forth below. The company will at its option, either repair or replace any part of its products that prove defective by the company on an exchange basis, and will be either new or refurbished to be functionally equivalent to new.

                          (b) This warranty does not cover any damage to this product that results from accident, abuse, misuse, natural or personal disaster, or any unauthorized disassembly, repair or modification.

                          (c) The shipping fee will be beared by each other for 50%.

10.The pin for "Reverse" is to connect the rear camera which is for optional, then when you were backing,it will switch to the rear camera automatically.

11.Yes,"ILL" is to connect the back light under button, and you only need to cnnect +ILL in your cable.

12.The other pins without name is useless at present.

13.There is a "closer panel" button in the interface, and it is used to protect the screen,so it doesn't need any pin for it.

14.Thank you for your information from website, and I have sent to our engineer, they will study the file as soon as possible, and I will keep you informed later, but could you pls send the information about your back wire connection direclty like the wire diagram,we want to check the definition,if yes,it will be very appreciated.Because we want to know the control for amplifier under the seat is operated by seperate cable or by the chief cable, which is important.

ME too squeaky, although I will be after the 2265 unless they have one specific to the Prado 90....but then again I intend to take this unit to my next car too

Its interesting that they mention about the installation of OziCE that they can do it. My understanding also from the VMS people is that a USB keyboard can be plugged in which would allow you to register OzeCE yourself.

I've also sent an email about the weight etc, I will post when I get answer.

                            Cheers

A couple more pics of interest from the same forum.

I also saw a pic of an onscreen keyboard.

Thanks for the info squeaky and thanks for your work Mav in finding out this info
I think pretty much every question has been answered. If they can put OZI on then it will be an ideal system for me and if I can interface a hard drive in as well, that would be fantastic. I will be able to work that one out after 20 years in the I.T. game !!

I am quite happy to buy one. Mav, do you want me to contact them direct or go through you ??
