This GPS looks interesting - made especially for the Prado?

Well I sent an email to Roadrover yesterday and Jessie has responded to it with the following info:

"We was informed by Route66 that we can get Route66 new version map within these two days,and I will upload it to you once I got it,so don't worry.

I'm sorry to advice you that our unit can't match TomTom 6 map yet,because they are based on different platform and architecture.The map software should be accord with MIPSSII architecture and windows CE operating system,then it has possibility to match our production,otherwwise it can't run.Hope you can understand."

So hopefully in the next few days we will be able to update to the new Route 66 package.

I think I will shoot off an email to Tom Tom support to see if they have any package that will work on MIPSSII and Windows CE.

Hi All.
I am with you guys (with newer roadrovers).. I wish they could advise how to " break in" to the OS so we could load own own cusotm apps. i notice some really funky stuff around and some car PC makers now have stuff like virtual dashboards ..and email clients etc etc ..

all very cool if you can get it on to the machine.. The vDash stuff and some of the other stuff interfaces directly with the OBDII interface so all sorts of info is available

I fitted the roadrover last night , Unit, and Reverse Camera and the lot

The bottom end clips didn't lock perfectly to the AC unit and leaves a slight gap that I don't like. :?

Aside from this Everything is A-OK , I shall give you my feedback sooner once I test it My Way :twisted:

Good work Mansour, I like your choice of reverse camera much better idea than cutting a hole in my opinion.

That scorpian looking bit on your satnav display is that the airport or a big marina complex?

So where did you attach the wire marked reverse coming from the back of the roadrover?

Okay I sent Jessie at Roadrover another email and quick as a flash she responded which is not the norm in my experience but a welcome change.

Anyway I asked about how to load up OziExplorer and this was her response:

"Regardint to OZI,it must prinstalled by software engineer of manufacture,because the registeration form can't be saved if it is installed by user.Pls kindly note it"

I find it strange that this should be the case as there must be a set procedure for doing it, I mean surely all you need is the license to enter and bobs your uncle, so to speak.

Mansour old son - well done! It all looks great and I agree with Mav about the reversing camera - much better idea. Here's hoping everything works well.

Mav, if you're not familiar with Dubai check it out on Google Earth. The 'Marina' complexes are amazing (as is the rest of this city).

The installer connected the reverse camera with tail light (reverselight) , not to wise but did the trick

The scorpion shape marina is (the palm Jumiraha) the largest island ever constructed by man (13 km long, 25KM wide) on which are shaped like a palm tree surronded by a crecent breakwater , it will be sooner lose the record to its sister (palm jebel ali) which in turn will lose the title to the finali of the trio , the Palm Deira (wich will be equal to the size of London :shock: ) , the web address for this triology is; http://www.thepalm.ae/

The reverse camera is with night vision , I tersted it and perfect (don't bothert asking Roadrover for camera and loom, all of-the-shelf Chinese products are compatible)

Route 66 - Hate it

How are you doing

Been 2 weeks now with the road rover , had a few questions

1- Does Audio CD's play only in DVD mode
2- Where can I mute the sound
3- Which weblink shall I go to to register my copy of route 66 and hopefully get updates -Roadrover wants to charge me for it :shock:
4- The clock is always 10minutes behind the car clock although I keep adjusting it - is that normal :?:
5- The speedo reading is 4KM higher than what the GPS is listing which one is the correct one
6- The Nav doesn't work while DVD is playing even with sound directions :shock:
6- I didn't try to read from USB yet while using NAV I shal tets today and let you know

The bottom gap increased in my install and I think I shall re-assemble the unit again , a matte suggested to enlarge the polt holes in the metal piece that holds the Info panel/Audio & AC units together to allow for perfect fit

I shall keep updating you all

Although I don't have the roadrover, I suspect at least with these two questions I may know the answer....

4- The clock may be adjusted by the GPS signal as it contains the current time. Usually however it is dead accurate as long as the timezone is set correctly.....
5- Typical Prado speedo error.....The GPS speed is right. My speedo error was around 3% so when reading 100km/h I was actually doing 97. With the addition of my bigger tyres, reading 100km/h ended up doing 101, but now the tread is down a bit its about even.

Speedo error is quite common on different cars. A recent drive in a Diesel Mazda 6 showed an error of 8%! i.e. set speedo to 118km/h to actually doing 110. That should save a heap of Mazda 6 owners from speeding fines....
My work VY Commodore was dead on speed.

BTW, the Mazda 6 was a pleasure to drive.....for a 2L it actually has more power & torque than my 3L 1kz-te...& it pulls really strongly all the way to redline at 5000rpm to boot! - bit of a difference then to old 1kz-te. Not to mention the fuel economy...6.9L per 100km .....but I digress.

Not sure what you mean by this but it only has a DVD player and DVD players can play CD's.

In what way do you mean? I will take a guess and hope you mean the DVD player if so then there is a mute button on the remote control for the DVD.

You should have received a little card that has a scratch panel on it. The details on the card tell you the website to go to to register. You will also need the product ID from the opening Satnav screen when you select to register it.

I had a problem with the new Australia map version when I first received the Roadrover with the clock always being out. However since reverting to the older Route 66 software the clock has been stable.

The GPS speed reading is the more accurate reading the Toyota speedo is usually out by about 4 km/h

Yes it does however you need to use the remote control to get the DVD to play at the same time as using the Satnav software.

Mine works fine in fact I regularly have the DVD playing plus listening to MP3s via a USB drive and using the Satnav at the same time.

What I meant was is there a way to mute the sound of the radio or the DVD outside the remote , I guess No.

And Still if am playing an Audio CD , I have to play it using the DVD function only not through Music , and When you do that (Play Audio CD's) , how can you switch to the NV Screen While the Audio CD plays at the Background. ??

I trie dusing the remote , but nob , nothing

And Mav , I didn't get a scratch card on my unit, But the DVD thing has a registration code and a serial number so If you can send me the Web Link please

Mansour - My order has been delayed, looks like roadrover is sorting out this issue with Route 66 where the Nav, radio,BT, DVD cant run at the same time. (see email they sent me below)

"we meet one minal problem on Route66 map software,which is that you can't run navigation&radio,BT,DVD at the same time,so we are waiting for the changes from Route66,sorry for the delay.

Once we got the update from Route66,we can ship the goods right away.Hope you can understand."

This does not surprise me that the new Route 66 will not allow all these things to run at the same time. With the old version, which we are running here, you can certainly run all things at the same time.

Route 66 is not the best satnav program in existance and does not hold a candle to the likes of Tom Tom software.
