I've been told some bulls that it's t he dealers and they load it. For you and that's it.... Funny thing is there's a license agreement in the glove box that says handle disc with care etc etc ...

    Thanks
Your satnav will not work without the disc...is that what you're seeing? Do note that the disc is loaded in the loader under the passenger seat. You can go into one of the menus and check the current version and eject the disc.

If you have no disc, you should go and talk to your dealer.

      Michael

The DVD stack/loader is in the dash in the altitude ,you load through a single slot mechanism.

In the sat nav somewhere in the menu (I can't find it again at the moment as I don't have a manual for the system) there is an option to eject DVD and upgrade, when you click eject it then errors and says no DVD .

I called the dealer and they said we keep the disc but we load it for you!!!

Which I think is a little white lie....

Funny thing Toyota customer service didn't know about the DVD stacker in the dash either....

I have an altitude (1 1/2 weeks old now) and was also wondering about the Satnav disc.

I found the option to eject DVD and upgrade, when I click eject it says no DVD.

I could hear the normal whirring sound of a CD/DVD drive but not from the dash stacker. After a bit of searching I found it coming from a box under the passengers seat. However no DVD emerged from the cloth covered slot and I could not seem to get it to accept a DVD either, (although it was not the navigation DVD.)

Like the others I did not get a DVD but was told it was loaded, and so it seems to be as the system is quite happy and reports the latest version of the software, V18. But as to where it is loaded I do not know.

        All very curious.

There is another box of electronics under the drivers seat but have not worked out what it is yet. So much to investigate...

Well there you go...didn't know it didn't need the disc to operate. Certainly earlier versions I had seen did. I haven't tried removing the disc in my Kakadu assuming it's there as well. Although I bought my vehicle from my bother in law (he's a Toyota dealer) so should be sweet.

The box under the drivers seat is the amplifier for the 14 speakers I believe.

          Cheers Michael

I wonder if Toyota has now smarten up and the only way to upgrade the satnav maps is to bring it back to a dealer and bend over?

Really thats interesting, and when I get home I will be checking for the device under the seat , as when I pushed eject disc , the led on my main audio unit started flashing as if it as ejecting and then was promted with no disc...

                BJ and others.

Update. I have the disc! Map Data ver.R18_V7

After trying multiple times to eject the dvd it finally did. It does exist and it was in the unit under the passengers seat. No lights or activity from dash disc stacker.

                Steps were -
                1. Press "INFO TEL" button on display unit.
                2. Touch "Map Data" button on touch screen (3rd from left, I think)
3.Touch "DVD" button on touch screen bottom left
                4. Whirring noise of DVD drive unloading
                5. Look at slot and there was disc! (from rear passenger area is the easiest with front passenger seat fully forward)

If you don't get there quick enough it will reload the disc.

                100% reliable to unload now.

Now to see if my Hema disc will load! (If I feel game to try)

                Cheers

I loathe the idea of having this equipment bolted to the floor of my vehicle. Hence the reason I replaced my factory kit with an aftermarket unit that has everything in the main (head) unit. All it takes is getting bogged in a crossing, your floor pan fills up with water and it's goodbye entertainment centre! Worse still though I suppose is (so i am told), the new Hilux that now has the ECU Comp that used to be mounted on the side wall of the passenger foot well (same as Prado), is now mounted on the floor under the rear passenger seats! So if you stall during a water crossing, start ringing for a towie...

After reading this thread when I picked up my Altitude 2 wks ago I asked about the manual. They said yes it was forgotten about in Australia. Got a call yesterday saying they had arrived and were express posting it out to me! no charge!

I received my Sat Nav manual this week from Toyota.

I have had my Altitude for 4 weeks today.
                        Cheers
