  • Cheap Chinese GPS?

    G'day,

Has anyone had a bad experience with the cheaper Chinese GPS’s?
I brought a 7” Chinese GPS from an importer here is Sydney and I’m happy with its performance so far. It has voice street navigation and WindowsCE 6.0 that I added OziExplorer and some topo maps and it works great. Comes with 2 year warranty and life time map updates.
I also have a mate that has a VMS and he was very surprized by to find that the main navigation was the same as mine. I will admit that the VMS is slightly better to use.

    Cheers, Terry

        G'day Rob,
My moving map on OziExplorer works great. With mine I got the 7" GPS with an upgrade to 8gb micro SD card, wireless reverse camera, a triple cig and USB power pack all for under $130 posted to my door. Just have to add the cost of OziExplorer and topo maps.
I will try to find the link for it soon.

Terry, I am also keen to see which one you got. Have started looking around for one to replace the factory GPS.

                cheers, Paul.

G'day Sorry it's been awhile but here is a link to a better unit, it's better because it has more memory, 4 gb storage on the device and that leave the 8 gb micro sd card free for maps.

Got one from Dig Options. Its an in dash unit and im very happy with the quality, fit and functions. Was a simple plug and play setup that lets me have touch screen, GPS, CD/DVD, radio, bluetooth, Ipod, TV,virtual CD (copies music to memory), 2x mini SD card slots, USB port, 3G internet USB port, reverse camera and a heap of AUX cable options if you ever decided to run amps etc.

I accidentally lost the 8gb mini SD card that came with it during install but have utilised the one out of my Hema hn5i to load up the latest IGo 8 and Primo Australian maps. I searched on 'fixmygps.net" and found a tonne of great information and maps. I have even edited the load files to have Toyota logos come up on the screen when loading etc. I will source another SD card to be dedicated to the unit with the Primo maps during on road travel and still have my Hema Hn5i for when I want to head bush and use Ozzy and MM.

best thing about the import models is that you get a heap of functions and you can customise your software and maps to suit your preferred GPS setup. Other off the shelf units, like my Hema, lock you into using particular brands and pay for ma updates after a certain time frame.

Between the in dash, window mount and rear seat hard maps I hope I still dont get lost!

                    Cheers,

The software is the same just like any other GPS unit. For example, the Primo IGo software you can setup the language settings from english to whatever you want. The bonus to having the import model is you can customise the type of software you want on your unit and even modify the start up screens etc to suit your vehicle.

                          Cheers,

Some of these Cinese GPS's offer life time map updates..... BUT, its only once a year where u can update and you have to contact the eBay seller for the code to enable u to update your maps from IGO website......well, that's what I was told at least....

If the import GPS units are not running legit versions of the software (usually the case) then its easy to just find the updated map files applicable to your version and overwrite them on the sd card. No fuss with trying to get info off an ebay seller.
