The HN6 has Camps Guide loaded, so are you able to get it to list all the sites near you within a pre set distance according to your current GPS location?

So the Hema Maps work on an iPad? Is the iPad Mini up to the task? From reading through this thread you need the 3G version for its GPS capability so wifi only units are no good?

I have the 4WD Tracks option on my Navman but they are just lines on a map not topo maps. I didn't take the Navman on my last outing and was surprised when some of the tracks were showing on the factory GPS, they must be counted as roads in that area.

I gave mine a crack today on my iphone4 and I was pretty happy with it. No doubt an iPad mini would be better but certainly acceptable on an iPhone.

Sorry Fido. I use the Hema on an iPad mini. Works fine. I haven't mounted it like Hutch and co but works fine.. Mine is 3G using pre paid sim that I top up when needed.

I should add I also use the mini with Navionics when kayaking so I am really happy with how it works.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 32gb 10.1" with 3G & WiFi can be had for $449 at Officeworks. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether the Galaxy has GPS built in to the 3G functionality.

Fido 16GB. Running on Telstra mobile network. Takes time to get connected sometimes but no real problem. I use a bicycle ap on my phone and I've loaded that too to track paddling adventures.

I am using the Hema ap just as a map, not sure how much functionality it has compared to my sons Hema HN6 which is pretty good (though it doesn't have the Go Betweens bridge in it, so it was a bit confused on Friday night) that I have to experiment with. On the face of it Navionics has way more data than Hema but I am in trouble if I have to use that ap while in the Prado.

I use the mini when I travel so it has my music on it as well as several dozen books and manuals. Poll mail as well when I am away.

The cellular in the iPad Mini is 3G right? Officeworks are listing it as 4G, just want to confirm if that's a mistake. It's a little bit cheaper at OW than JB HiFi surprisingly but with OW you have to order online with in-store pickup, they don't have them on the shelf.

Fido definately 3G. Mine was a present last Christmas and generally it get used by everyone (I have a normal sized iPad from work as well). The only problem I have is that the print when reading books on an aeroplane is quite small and difficult to read in the poor light. But that is my problem and easily solved.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 using a ram mount for the windscreen. It is the wifi / 3g and it has inbuilt gps. Apps I use around town when i went to Brisbane was google maps. It was fantastic. Also use memory map for both road and marine navigation. I also like to use Alpine Quest using google satellite maps etc.. I might do a youtube video showing all this today if I get time.

OK, so I have the chance to purchase a Hema HN5i for a ridiculous price but b4 I do, I need to ask. Which is the better unit, the HN5i or the HN6?

The HN6 has a bigger screen and the on road maps are superior. The HN5i is supposed to have better off road maps.

I'm leaning towards the 5i because there isn't much need to use the on road function in Adelaide (let's face it, it's damn hard to get lost in Adelaide), and a good off road navigator will work well in conjunction with paper maps.

Any opinions, I've got a day b4 I have to hit the buy button.
