  • OziExplorer not working, no support, what to do?

I just recently purchased the Oziexplorer WA 100k map set to use on my Android Nexus 7. I installed the latest Android Oziexplorer app and the maps, but it doesn't work.

I'm pretty tech savvy so I've tried various options but I can't get the maps to work. I contacted Oziexplorer by text, by phone and by email......no answer. Very different to the instant response in selling me the maps (At $25!! the Oziexplorer app is the dearest app I've seen on Android)

I'm sure its a simple problem but I can't workout why. Anyone offer some ideas on why the maps may not be working in the Android app.

    Hey Krypto

Don't like being negative but don't expect any tech support from OziExplorer, best bet is to find some self trained guru on a forum.

I have it on an Android tablet, works perfectly. Do you have the right directories selected for the maps' location?

when you not only loaded the actual maps files did you include calibration files (about 4k each) also, have you indexed the maps since loading them?

Does the location you loaded the files equate to where Oziexplorer is set to look for them?

Thanks for all the replies. I recopied the files and now they work, I think one of the files may have been corrupted causing the problem.

I think Androzic is a better app than Oziexplorer, but unfortunately the ozi maps only work with the Oziexplorer app.

Is there any way to customise the page menus in oziexplorer?

          Thanks again for the tips.

            Steve,
I use my Ozi maps with Androzic.
Are your maps ozf2 or ozfx3?

            Cheers

In an exchange with Robert from HEMA he said:
Just so you know with the Android version of Ozi ... you can download for free a tool called the Ozi Screen Designer, with which (if you have a bit of graphics skill) you can create your own user interface.

It looks to be on the OziExplorer download page - http://www.oziexplorer3.com/android/...r_android.html

I don't have OziExplorer - I've just got a tablet and am looking more at Memory Map because it seems like a better designed program and getting the maps (eg 2012 1:25k NSW topos) seems easier.

I have some early ozfx3 maps that work with Androzic. Apparently Ozi changed the encryption so that other apps won't work with their maps

Thanks, I'll have a look at the page designer.

I recently compared MM to Androzic with my own maps while camping down south. On my Nexus 7 the screen would sleep with MM running which made it next to useless as you had to constantly wake the tablet. The only solution was to set the screen to permanently on which was a PITA. Other than that it seems like a simple welll designed app.

The Nexus 7 for $247 at Officeworks is a real bargain. The screen is awesome and the only downside is its 32Gb with no SD but I've found that to be more than enough space for maps and a bunch of other stuff.

Also fits perfectly on the dash.

Yes, they changed it so the ozf3 files are now encoded using the RC4 algorithm instead of homemade XOR, hence why only some of the older ones work.

Steve, is that the one without 3G your referencing?
I recommend paying the extra $50 and getting the one with 3G as it is a lot more flexible when your away from a wifi point. ( assuming you arent sharing a wifi hotpsot from your phone. )
                          They are a great tablet!

It's a lot cheaper to use your phone for data. The Nexus automatically tethers to my phone by blue tooth and there's a great app called tabletalk that let's you use your phone from the nexus.

Also Google maps now let's you store regions off line so you can download ahead of time.

I even have my nexus set up to watch live TV over my wireless network at home.
