    Drew,
Got your message (sorry I have been overseas) and will post my reply here as others may find it useful
I run a Google Nexus 7 Tablet for my mapping and GPS. It is mounted to my windscreen with a Ram X Grip II scissor mount and I rest the bottom lip on my dashmatt for added stability. There is no movement in the tablet at all and I have been in some very rough terrain with it.
The RAM mount suction cup is much larger than the nornal ones you see and once locked does not come off the window. IF you are worried RAM make a tripple suction mount but I have had no need for this as my single has been more than enough.
Also make sure the window is crystal clean before locking the suction cup on. A bit of windex is perfect for this.

I got my mount from Johnny appleseed in Brisbane (www.ja-gps.com.au) You will need 3 parts.
    RAM-HOL-UN8BU - X-Grip II Tablet Cradle
RAM- B-210-A - Short Double Clamp Size B ( The long clamp stuck out too far form the windscreen for me)
    RAM-B-224-1U - Locking B suction Metal Plate

It cost me about $70 all up. You can get it cheaper on ebay/US etc. But no one had mounted them as I got one of the first Nexus 7 tablets, so I tried a series of mounts in the Prado at their rocklea store . They were very accomodating, so they got my business due to their excellent customer service and RAM provides a lifetime warranty.

I also have a 2.1 amp USB socket in my cig lighter and run the cable up the side to the Tablet so it is alway powered.
A picture of the setup is below.

A photo showing the mount without tablet

    Any questions, just ask.

    Cheers
    Robert

So its been a while now since I have had the nexus and I have had the opportunity to have a decent play around with it.
I was lucky enough to have a friend give me his unused Hema maps CD with all of the maps... Australia wide!!!
I have downloaded a few different mapping programmes, mainly Oziexplorer, Androzic & Memory Maps.
Each of these apps have their own advantages, but due to me being a 'simple' kind of guy, I have focused only on one of them.
I found that Memory Maps was actually a very good app that was well thought out and fairly easy to use. The negative of using MM was that the free base maps are very basic and after you download the 10 day trial map, and the 10 days expires, you must pay for that map... kachink. Also the Hema maps that I already had couldn't be used in the MM format.
With Androzic, the set up for the file paths to the map folder was so hard to work out! Well on the Nexus anyway. I tried everything and just couldnt get the maps to load up. I had big hopes for Androzic but as I wasted so much time with it I uninstalled it.
So finally.. OziExplorer. IMHO Ozi is by far the easiest of the 3 programmes to use, especially with the Hema maps that I had. After minimal playing around I had the file paths set and the maps loading without a problem. I spent quite a bit of time to learn the functions and now I look at it and think - 'How simple!'
After deciding to keep it simple, I paid the $25 to Ozi so I didn't have to look at the big TRIAL watermark in the middle of the screen and man its just so easy to look at now.
The only bug I have is that the zoom isn't really accurate enough to set waypoints for when im fossiking on foot... it really is a vehicular based mapping programme.

So I have just ordered myself the same windscreen mount as Gumboot is running, and we are gearing up for a run south next week to check out Byfield, the Capricorn Coast and Gladstone.

Cant wait to use this tablet to find some new tracks!

          Hey Robert,

Do you know what the maximum tablet size this mount will take? I have a 10" ASUS TF300T and wondering if it would fit this mount - or perhaps would it need the double / triple mount?

I also have an older 7" Samsung Tablet that I could use at a dedicated GPS - but the ASUS is my main preference.

            Kevin,
There are various tablet holder options from RAM. See here for examples http://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM-Mounts/Tablet-Mounts
They list the compatable bases to the mounts in the link for each product.
You can check for you specific tablet here
            http://www.rammount.com/tablet_mount...c_mounts.htm#/

I use the XGRIP-II which will take up to a 7 inch tablet.
For a 10 inch tablet you would need the next size up XGRIP -III or one of specific model mounts listed in the link.

Regarding the base, the single suction base works well for my 7 inch tablet, but I dont know how it would handle the extra weight a 10 inch tablet. I have not tried it. But I would be leaning to the triple suction mount if i was you due to the added extra weight.
Best bet is to find a local retailer and try them out if you can.

            Cheers

              Hi ALL

Dick Smith were running the nexus 7 tables (16gb) out for $149 so finally a decent tablet under $150 that has a GPS, it was a no brainer :-) I bought OZI last night from Des and the HEMA maps are now installed.. I have a Double DIN replacement system already installed in the 120 running Windows CE but the BIGGEST issue with that version of OZI is it doesnt have the distance rings. Looking for mounts as we speak, I may go RAM as I already have a bunch of the suction cups as spare.

I bought an OTG cable for it today and looking to "root" (not stuff up) the unit so I can mount a USB stick on it and move the OZI maps to it and free up some of the base memory..

Definately for the price these units are awesome value....

There is a free Android street navigation app called MapFactor. It uses OpenStreetMap data. Only downloaded it tonight. You can't enter in house numbers but it is free. There are free maps for many countries that you can download so you don't use any data. Very handy for when you're in another country or can't get data where you're at.
