  • Cheep chinese multimedia Head Units running oziexplorer (win-ce)

I think I have this all sorted but yet to test my set-up, anyone else out there running oziexplorer win-ce in their head units.

I run oziexplorer in my PC so have a good grounding in this software. Plan is to run the standard GPS software on one Micro SD card and have the raster 250k maps and Oziexplorer on another Micro SD. Then you swap out the cards and boot into your prefered navigation software.

    1. Downloaded win-ce oziexplorer and unziped to a micro SD card
    2. Converted my 250k raster maps to ozef4 format
    3. Copied .map and converted ozef4 files to the oziexplorer/map/ dir.
    4. Change the name of the oziexplorer.exe to match my existing default HU navigation exe boot file.

Is this how others are working it?

Issue I'm striking is I cannot access the file name in the settings (well not that I have found yet) It seems to be with my unit it only pops up as a selection on first install of GPS SD card. Seeing as I have to pull the card to force the dir selection, I may as well just pop in another card with the same dir and file names, as this could be quicker.

I run the autotunez head unit, the importer is away so I can't ask him to confirm this until he is back in Auz.

      -----------------------------------------------------

As I set it up above it seems to load and function, appears I got it right first time, gota be happy with that.

So for the princely sum of $600 I have a full multimedia system with city navigation and now a full set of Topagraphics with GPS plotting.

Hi Gympie, I have not really used any other maps, I came across these old 250K Raster maps second hand from a mate, cost me a few beers. I have all of Australia sitting on a Micro SD and that's only half full, heheh. When I brought this head unit a few weeks ago someone pointed out to me that it ran Win-CE. At the time I didn't even realise that Oziexplorer made a 'Win-CE' version, stumbling through this process myself. As Oziexplorer has a free trial version and I had maps gathering dust I thought I give it a go, very happy I did.

I got this head unit, some small bugs, one steering wheel button wont work, nothing ball breaking. The seller offered to replace it with another to see if that fixed it but I can bring myself to pay for the postage and have a hole in my dash while this happens. For the price it's a magic little unit, if it holds up over time I'll be a very happy man. I've been buying Chinese electronics for a few years now, I now even use Chinese RC gear for racing expensive RC planes, proven after much testing and use. Chinese quality has improved, I was willing to give this unit a shot based on my experiences to date and those of a mate who got a similar unit for his 90 series.

For us running the dig-options unit the main gripe is on a sunny day the screen is washed out due to reflections off seat, skin, whatever. Is this unit the same?

                Hi Ozpat,

It's not great vision, but I really don't have much to compare it with? It's not a glossy screen and it does have some reflection issues as is but not unreadable. I did notice I can control brightness and contrast in the settings, and it has three dim settings available from a button on the left of the unit, which could all help.

I'm not convinced a genuine unit mounted in the same spot would actually be any different, this could be a general problem all round. Only you could tell if this was any better than yours, if you're over my way one day feel free to pop over and take a look.

Yes i thought that as well. We are lucky in these techy savy days to acquire these things for free

Hema ones i have are 250k maps i think which is a large area, good for me traveling outside nsw, get you out of trouble.

other ones i acquired are all nsw 25k & 100k, very detailed down to every forest trail and track in the state.

only problem i have found so far is some of the 25k maps are out a bit with gps location.

For under $100 for 7inch screen running street & offroad is really unbeatable Loving it.
