Seen a few of these on eBay recently for around $290:

7" Car GPS SPEAKS STREET NAME REVERSING CAMERA
FM TRANSMITTER + BLUETOOTH + ANTENNA + 2GB SD CARD

Looks to be the generic "GPS" system, but with a 7" screen,
runs WinCE 4.2 Net operating system with maps and software on a
    2GB SD card:

Has anyone tried one of these units?

I have just got a 4.3" GPS which has IGO installed on it. I have managed to get Ozi working on it but I can't seem to be able to get IGO working. It is probably me doing something wrong but when I start up IGO the cursor does not move from its original starting position. I have tried changing setting but still cant seem to get it to work. Even if it is a programme error I am still happy as I dont have to carry a laptop in the car to use Ozi explorer.

      Does anyone have any ideas.

Don't know, maybe try a re-install and check all the settings. Also try the Navsoon forums for another IGO8 download. I have had no trouble with mine so far.

I have tried a reload several times and it still freezes as soon as it gets a satelite fix. I have also tried running IGO on its own SD card and the same happens. Next step will be to try and get another IGO download and try again.

                IGO not the problem

The problem is not iGO but the actual base software. I have spent the last two months trying to fix 3 of these units but without the data cables from China it has been a lost cause, although i have been able to get many things to run including Tom Tom on these units.

Most of these cheap imports are running pirated base software and the manufacturers are unwilling to let a buyer pay extra and update the base software past the 7,12,30 or 60 day trial. The trial does not show up and only becomes apparent when theses units fail to work.

On one unit I managed to format the whole system and start again, but this became a long and arduous task, and in the end I was no better off than before.

I contacted LogicGear and they confirmed these use pirated software and without the proper cables and software for these units they can become nothing more than paperweights.

I am trying to access the cables via China and if i do get hold of one I will be sure to post a note on this forum.

What 'base software'? They are just Windows CE devices running an app which in this case is GPS software. They are dead easy to setup and update. As far as 'the cable' you're talking about it's just mini USB...

                    buying an ebay gps

I have had a look through the posts and have obviously been off the radar for a while, I just didn’t realise you could get something like an offroad gps so cheap.

I have searched for particular brands that others have on ebay without a lot of success, just wondering what I should be looking for, in terms of features, I have just typed gps into ebay. I really only want one for offroad/topographical maps, not a street directory, although wont turn it down.

Is there a type that is easier to convert with oziexplorer maps or just simpler for someone not so computer minded?
Are there features it will need to have, to do use downloaded maps?

Any suggestions as to where to start would be appreciated, if there is a very basic thread on all this stuff im happy to be told where to go!

I did my conversion using the instructions above.

This is similar to the Unit I purchased

As I have said in previous posts I had a few issues with the street Nav but Ozi explorer works a treat.

I've got the one from Zazz above, running Ozi on it. Works fine although it has twice decided that Ozi is trying to do something it's not allowed and shuts down. I recopied the system files and it started working again. I noticed DailyDeals have something similar for under $100 today (might have been $89) but the advert doesn't say exactly what it's running from (eg SD card with NAVTEQ maps) which most of these ones that are used to run Ozi do. The beauty of DailyDeals (if you live in Melb) is they have a shop in Clayton that you can go into and read the packaging to get a better idea.

                          Hi Guys,

I think I'm on a spending spree and now looking at a GPS. Currently have my eyes on this:

                          http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....ayphotohosting

I contacted the seller and asked about the specs which indicate that the unit supports upto 8Gb SD Cards and the response confirmed that this unit works with SDHC cards which is cool.

The only downer is that there is no reversing camera with it, but then I havn't had any problems (unlike the minister).

Any one else seen these? Any comments before I spend some mulla?

I understand many units have a mini usb connection for mapping but what i meant is some units from China have a strange plug, someting like a ipod connection. This connection is what is needed to format the unit's internal structure, this is not part of the windows CE structure, but more to do with the GPS internals which may be the cause of many unit failures.

Sounds good to me Clifton. The unit dosn't support a reversing camera which my wife wants but I don't really care about that. Has anyone tried to utilise, just as a trial, other street navigation software other than iGo?
