  • Navlink/Oziexplorer help

I’ve recently bought a Navlink GPS with 4gb memory off Ebay with the intention of installing Oziexplorer on it, but it looks like I’ll need some help as I don’t think my IT expertise will get me too far on that one.

I created a folder called Oziex in the Nandflash (memory) of the Navlink, downloaded a demo copy of wince core runtime and with a bit of juggling via an SD card managed to copy it into the Oziex folder.

I then opened up the settings in the Navlink and went to nav setup and set the path to OziexplorerCE_arm.exe. Oziexplorer opened up and I was able to get into the various screens but after a couple of minutes it defaulted back to the Settings or program screen. I then directed the path to EziexplorerCE_mips.exe and the same thing happened, defaulting back to the settings screen after a few minutes.

Obviously I’ve done something wrong so I was wondering if one of the IT experts here could be kind enough to either provide a “from the start description” of what I need to do to install and get Ozi running, or tell me what I’ve done wrong so far and what I need to do to get it to work.

Remember to keep it all simple and no IT speak.

    Re: Navlink/Oziexplorer help

Looks like I might have jumped the gun a bit with my first post (I had an angry teenager hovering over me wanting to get onto MSN ops: ). It now looks like some of my original problems may have been as much to do with unfamiliarity with the program as anything :?

After having another go last night, I think I managed to get it to run OK and this morning I ran moving maps in the vehicle to work despite the only available map being the world map which of course isnt going to provide much detail.

However, I still seem to be having the intermittent problem with it dropping out of Oziexplorer and taking me back to the program screen. Last night (after working out how to use it), and during the trip to work it seemed stable enough, but once at work its started dropping out again and taking me back to the program screen. Initially I thought it might be to do with the low battery but after charging its still happening.

Is this because I am still fiddling with the demo version or is there another issue that needs sorting out? It drops out even though its indicating a signal from up to 9 sattelites.

Not a lot of help coming forward on this one unfortunately.

Mine seems to be defaulting back to the Programs screen every second time I turn it on while in Oziexplorer. This morning I tried to use the Igo8 navigation software but it kept opening up in Oziexplorer. When I went into the GPS Status screen I got an error message stating "Register com err" which I am assuming means there is a communications error.

I switched the unit off and reset the path to Igo8 and it worked OK. I suspect that if you move between the two programs without switching the unit off it can cause a communication problem, but this doesnt always seem to solve the problem with Oziexplorer. Still searching for an answer

          Re: Navlink/Oziexplorer help

          Hi Guys,
I also initially went this way with my elcheapo unit, but soon changed to having IGoV8 on one 2GB SD card and Ozi Ce and associated maps on a separate 2GB SD card as I did not want any hassles on a long trip, it works well.
Sometimes I need to do a system Reset when changing from OzI back to IGO as the registry entries are still active for Ozi.
I know it is not as sophisticated a solution as loading everything onto one card and using the the program navigator, but I opted for a simple swap SD Card solution.
          Hope this helps a little

Sounds like the GPS unit is running out of memory when you are running OziExplorer. Try running Oziexplorer on its own SD card, and with out win CE.

Currently using inlaws el cheapo unit as a trial. One SD card has the route 66 program on it, and an other has the Oziexplorer CE program on it. Win CE is built in to the unit, so no need to run the demo version.

Once I have sorted out photos and instructions, I plan to make up a DIY link.

              Re: Navlink/Oziexplorer help

              Hi Rainman,
I would only try running Ozi from the SD card, and probably leave the Flash memory alone. You may be able to simply change the default Navigation program through the Nav settings in Windows already loaded on the GPS, see the pics below for most of the steps. Thats what I do, it's all on one SD card, with backups on CD and PC. Simple and effective I have IGO8 and Ozi with all of Australia (GA Maps) on a 2 GIG SD card.

Hope this helps. OZI unregistered or registered should still work (at least for ten minutes then the unregistered copy will stop functioning.) It is sometimes a bit unstable, asking to connect with the GPS as if is has just been loaded and suchlike, but a great little program for $30.

              Cheers
              Snowy

                Re: Navlink/Oziexplorer help

OK, I still havent got around to purchasing Oziexplorer CE but I have moved the demo version to the 2gb card along with some maps and that seems to have settled things down. I have also found that turning the thing off when moving from IGO to Ozi helps as well (instead of sending it to sleep).

Looking at Ebay, the model I bought currently has a minimum starting bid of $225. The one I bought started at 99 cents. I had mine delivered to my door for $221, got to be happy with that.
