Well done. Sorry I couldn't take up the offer. I'm sure the SPOT system will have a bright future. I can't wait to see the next model - which will no doubt be even better.

No probs, I was merely passing on an offer that should have only been available to US buyers. It was a decision by SPOT marketing to honour the deal for my friends and family which I appreciated them doing. I know that one of the units will be put to good use by a 4wd club who plan to use it for their outings.

Mav... I've seen your other posts on the SPOT and also tracked your progress via your weblinks when posted.

 Is the unit still performing strong?
 Have you experienced any other difficulties with the unit or its operation?
 Have you also tested out the message function yet? If so, how did it perform?

              Hi ntpryce,

I can include my comments on this topic now, as Mav was kind enough to include me in the special offer before Christmas.

Had a lot of fun on our trip away over the break. Family and friends tracked our every move, every 10 minutes. I only had one run (from the Hawksberry River bridge to Raymond Terrace) on the way up the coast where it failed to log, still don't know why. It logged every 10 minutes from there to the North Coast, and all in between trips.

Used the message function a couple of times and that worked fine.

Mav have you had any runs where it failed to log?

On a whole though very reliable, and alot of fun.

FWIW. I love my SPOT. I will bring it down with me to the Simpson crossing and PP GTG so my wife can keep tabs on me. It was either that or she hires a PI.

 Is the unit still performing strong? Love it, still performing great on the batteries it came with.
 Have you experienced any other difficulties with the unit or its operation? Nope, only time it failed to track my progress was when I failed to hold the okay button long enough to activate the function and only sent an "I am okay message" Have you also tested out the message function yet? If so, how did it perform? Yep it has worked each time I have pressed the okay button.

                    Re: SPOT Personal Satellite Tracker

Thanks for the updated advice everyone. I regret not getting in on Mav's kind offer just over Xmas, but couldn't commit the money just at that time . No doubt I will be a SPOT owner in the near future.

All things going to plan, I will have one of these and also be coming to the PP GTG in July.

Only when I did not hold the okay button long enough to start the tracking function and only sent a "I'm Okay" message. Also found that it works the best if the spot logo has good view of the sky. I use the Tyre Dog suction cap holder that came with my Tyre Dog TPMS set to hold the SPOT in place, it works really well.

On a whole though very reliable, and alot of fun.

US$100 per year to get the satellite service (basic) add US$50 per year to get the googgle map attached to your current location which is then emailed to the internet address of your choice. Unlimited use at this price.

                          Re: SPOT Personal Satellite Tracker

I've had a SPOT tracker for the last week and for the most part it performs flawlessly, however for some reason the tracker function doesn't always seem to record every 10 minutes, sometimes it will, other times it seems to go missing for a while and then spring back into life and log again.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this might be? I can only assume that it's not getting it signal through to the communications satellites.
You can see on my shared page here how it goes missing occasionally with gaps between the logged points:
                          http://share.findmespot.com/shared/f...eBdkrMt11tcQM4

(Note: the tracks will disappear about a week from this post)

                            Hi JeffH,

I have had my SPOT since Christmas, and experienced similar problems. See my previous posts. I don't see it as a problem as it always seems to kick back in. If you look at Mav's most recent trip, you wiull see it too skips a few '10 minute' intervalls as well.
