    Yep.

Locks on quick, works well. Can miss the odd OK or tracking message, but no worse and probably better than the old one. Battery life is less than the Spot1 due to the AAA batteries, but the unit itself is smaller and also is less prone to accidental activation.

A mate of mine just bought two Spot2s from the US. From memory he paid US$115 + postage. To my knowledge he hasn't used it yet and he sold the other to another mate. I don't think either have the subscription for tracking but they may consider it.

        Re: SPOT Personal Satellite Tracker

We recently used the Spot 2 on a 10,000Km trip up to NT and through the Gulf. It was great, worked at every place we went and family and friends back home could keep an eye on us and we could check in when we got to each day's destination. It was great peace of mind when we were in the remote areas of the NT and the Gulf. We had the Help message set with all our RACQ details, so if we broke down, people could ring the RACQ for us with our membership number, exact GPS position, etc. The custom message was set to say that we had changed our plans or were delayed, that way people would know that although we had gone off our plan, we were OK. We even took it with us when we paddled up the Lawn Hill Gorge. It comes with an armband attachment so it is very portable. I'm trying to convince my boss to wear one all the time so we always know where he is and he can't check on us unexpectedly

Even with all the subscriptions it was cheaper than hiring a sat phone and about the same price as a GPS Epirb. Much better value than both of those other options though given the features you get imo.

                Ha. thats pretty funny.

We are contemplating using one this year in the racecar the girls drive, that way we can know times they enter a stage and also complete.
Nice info to know when your sitting somewhere in Tassie awaiting them at service!

                  OK,

I got the new SPOT Connect today that works with a smartphone via Bluetooth. It uses an iTunes App. that connects them. I was wanting to get one for a Mate's birthday (not you NTP) and was wandering the SPOT Connect App is available in OZ, or is there a way to get US Apps. in OZ?

Please let me know ASAP. He will be 'up above' this week.

                  Cheers,

                  -Ben

                    Re: SPOT Personal Satellite Tracker

I checked - not Available in the Aus Store at the moment.

Not sure how you would trick the App Store into thinking you were US based with an Aus iPhone, but there must be a way I guess.

Maybe talk to the Spot people - they must have plans to release it here.

Thanks for checking. I called them and they don't have any idea when it will be released in OZ either.

                          Re: SPOT Personal Satellite Tracker

I use a Spot 2 for work nearly everyday in the High Country VIC and even under canopy I have still been able to get the messages out. I mainly use the Ok button to tell everyone that I have left a site I was working at and moving on to the next one as they know my travel plans.

Unfortunately my experience with SPOT 2 is less than satisfactory
After TWO very short months our unit decided to send off three random "HELP messages", decided not to power off any more and then when we FINALLY got it to turn off (by removing the batteries!!) it wouldn't come back on!! A rather unhelpful man on the Warranty helpline helped me to "trouble shoot" by asking such sensible questions "Did you replace the batteries" - before telling me that it appeared the unit wouldn't power up. I have sent it off for repair/replacement with no clue of when it might (or might not) be returned. As we leave on a three mnth trip in 12 sleeps I am really disappointed with their after-sales service Hope that others have better luck than we did!!

WOW that is bad. Hopefully mine doesn't start doing that. I have been using mine for 8 months now and still have not changed the batteries and at this stage no problems. I hope you get yours back in time for you trip.
