  • GPS from China

Hi all - I notice that this issue has been covered before, but my question is more about the company - I spotted this on the net today (http://www.sundaybuy.com/Product_View.asp?ID=249) where they can deliver a CD/DVC/GPS Unit to Oz for under $1000 (Australian)...has anyone had any experience in purchasing these units from overseas - was is good, bad or indifferent? I'm really keen to get one for my 2005 prado, but just can afford the $2k for the one I really want, so compromise is one of these types of units...

    Cheers
    Mark

Mark, it seems pretty much like all the other units I have seen. If you go with the GPS option it would seem that you do not get the licensed satnav program but a demo version according to the website. However it has the advantage of running other satnav programs other than Route66 which is a bonus.

I have been told that the 7" ones don't fit and you need 6.5"

Also, you can't get our AM band.

          Anyone know for sure

Well both are wrong statements for the Roadrover unit I and some other members have installed in our Prados. This particular one that Mark is looking at will definitely fit but like the Roadrover it will need the auxilary facia to go around the aircon control LCD window.

i like the look of this one, the company i got mine from sells a similar model but i don't know how it would fit into the car... i've looked at a 2003 (mine) and a 2008 (mates) and both have a single piece surround for the stereo and aircon.. so not sure how this would fit without the need to cut something...

edit: this is what i mean by single piece surround for headunit and aircon.... not sure how the above unit fits into the picture..

anyone shed any light on it?

                  Thanks for all the comments...

The one I pointed out does seem to fit a different front to our prados here...interestingly, there was another model on the website which does seem to fit into our space a bit better...

                  Cheers

                    Re: GPS from China

Can anyone confirm the 7" will fit ok in the dash as a replacement for the standard one? I was looking at a rear view monitor and it may as well be worth to change out the whole head unit as apposed to a separate polaris monitor. There are a couple of cheapies on fleabay.. anyone had any dealings with these chinese units?

                          Ahh bugger it,
Just bought myself one of these GPS all in out units..
This is the one I just got
                          http://cgi.ebay.com/7-DOUBLE-DIN-CAR...3%3A1|294%3A50
$448 AUD sent and insured. They will add a reverse camera for 25USD also.. I hope its not a lemon

                            Re: GPS from China

                            Looks good.

Can anyone comment about the audio quality compared to the standard Toyota head unit?

My main reasons for getting one would be rear-view camera & ipod control. Not overly fussed about dvd (never felt the need to sit in my car & watch a dvd yet) & gps but if they've got crappy audio it would really disappoint.

                            Cheers

The local sparky recommended if getting any of those china units to make sure that they have a fan in the rear otherwise
                              they tend to overheat...
