    • Hi All,
Been a while since I "re-introduced" myself. After a lot of searching, reading this thread (with a high percentage of positive feedback) and a few emails to Matt I have ordered an AVN11TP for the 120. Looking forward to the install next week when it arrives.

During comms with Matt I mentioned this thread and was provided with a 5% discount code (Which some of you may know about). Matt asked me if I'd put up a reminder on here regarding the discount for members.

I won't post the actual code required on here but if you are looking at purchasing from DIG Options just fire off an email to him and he's happy to pass the code onto other members.

Getting a few pics to put up shortly of the build up so far so will get some of the stereo installation to add when I get time to post them.

      Cheers,
      David

      • In regard to my post above I have a question to ask regarding the GPS Aerial.
When I removed the dash panels previously to run some cables I noticed a cable and plug that looks like a GPS plug behind the original stereo.
Also found what looks like a removable cap on the dash under the dash mat. Looked in the manual and it looks like the cap is in the location that is for a compass sensor for a vehicle fitted with a multi information display with a compass.

My question is "Can I use this plug/lead for the GPS aerial or do I have to use the aerial supplied with the unit?"

Not a big issue as it looks like a good spot to feed the units cable through without the need of new holes in the dash.

        • Use the one provided with the unit. Mine sits under the dash (vecro'd in place) and there are no issues with signal strength.

I am currently looking at one of these for my '05 GXL. Can you elaborate on what aspects may be disappointing?

Firsty the screen is practically useless in sunny conditions with anything bright on passengers side reflecting off it, same from the passenger's viewpoint. But then other dashboard units may be the same. You may prefer a windscreen or other mounted one, Ipad, VMS etc which can be tilted to suit, and have better mapping options. Secondly they're not the most user friendly units around. Instructions are in Chinglish and useless. So unless you use them all the time you have to constantly relearn how to use it. (Maybe I'm getting too old) The Igo street mapping is ok, just out of date. I'll probably go an Ipad or similar eventually.

                Cheers, Jim

                  • I rate the dodgy options unit I installed as the wort mod I have done, as ozpat said, even it worked you can't see the screen most of the time. Mine has never worked properly, the off road mapping freezes up constantly needing a reboot only to freeze up again. The Igo is sort of OK, but usually takes you on the most obscure route to get anywhere eventually you get there. The reverse camera takes forever to fire up if the unit is turned off.

I use the ipad now which is brilliant by comparison.

                    Cheers Andrew

                    • Updated my maps a couple of weeks ago that somehow I had missed. (now running 4th 1/4 2012) Unit has been glitch free. I generally use Navigon for street & MotionX for Offroad on my iPhone nay way...The display is the only real criticism with it hard to see with any sort of glare on it.

                      • I've found mine to be reasonable, the screen glare is about the same as my Navman, certainly the screen can be a bit temperamental in terms of selecting functions. To get the updates, I just email the website and they send you a link.

                        • Hey fellas, all the new units are starting to come out of china with the A8 chipset which is must faster so if you are going to get a stereo wait for this, you will have no trouble with your GPS.

This would be helpful viewing what's down in front of me when approaching a steep crest. I presently have the reversing Cam fitted which works well. I'm unsure exactly what this extra cam would connect to on these units. I assume it would be the Aux Video connector and switch to Aux to view. I can't see anywhere that would provide/switch power to the cam when selecting Aux, so does that mean I would need to have permanent power to the cam? (off ignition / ACC). I have posted the question to Matt at Digoptions and awaiting a response, but in the meantime maybe someone else has done it?

I am in the process of doing that on my 2008 120.
Its strange that there are no suggestions included from Matt, as to which places are good for the forward camera. I am making up a small bracket that comes off the windscreen behind the rear vision mirror. Sticking it on with toll camera sticker.
I have a caravan camera too but with the other cameras, it needs a control box. 3+ cameras.
Not installed yet; Aust Post are bringing the items by Pony Express; one of the horses has thrown a shoe!

Will post again when its all done.

                            • Here's the link to what I did in mine Bill. I connected my Cam up to the Aux input which works well. The Cam, we'll not the best quality as soon as it gets wet it fogs up which can be annoying but, you get what you pay for...

                              • Hi craigm,
Not sure if the first reply went out there!

Your setup is a good solution. Nothing hanging off mine to put it there?

Do you have a caravan camera? What did you use for a housing for the cable end at the rear of your vehicle; like an Anderson plug or wiring plug?
