  • Very nice mate - it's good the control box is so small and can fit in that spot. Have you looked inside the controller - does it have a single contactor and does it have a wireless controller as well?

    • Nice thick, high quality, King One offset hawse too.

I was planning on remote mounting the control box into the engine bay but its so small, compact and has a completely sealed 1 piece solenoid I may leave it.

It fits so nicely in the bar on top of the motor I may just leave it there.
Wired the wireless remote into the box too and it all fits in there nicely.

Have yet to use the split loom on the cables yet.
All the supplied cables are heavier gauge than Ive seen on other winches and the quality of everything seems impressive.
Even better, they are all exactly the right length for the Prado setup

      New Alrounder battery fitted also.

Came with a full 30 meters of 10mm Dyneema which is well overated for a 9.5k and thats all good

        One big single sealed jobbie

I didnt come with a wireless but I fitted one and it all fits inside the control box.
Its a generic ebay style wireless remote and what a piece of sh*t it is too!
I see what people mean about lag and overun.........sheeeeesh!

        • Reeled in the new rope, will need to get it out again and do it with some proper load.
It really fills up the drum !

          All done for now

I still need a main power isolator and a switch on the dash to switch on the solenoid and at the same time to disable the rear battery charge circuit and disconnect the rear batts.

There sure is a delay in responding, that's why I put control switches on my dash

Don't forget if you go for the thimble you will have to take it all off again Might be better doing it all at once - or is that the plan?

Why? Thimble goes on from the front end???
                You mean the Viking?

Yes, I mean the Viking. To fit it you have to pass the long length of rope back through the short length at one point which can only be done with the rope off the winch.

                  • I bought a Tigerz11 main battery isolator and it looks like a piece of crap
It looks half the gauge of the supplied Avenger cable.
Its just dodgy, I dont think I want to use it, it looks about 25 square mm cable or about a 3AWG, poor quality cable, crimping and even crappy heat shrink .
The supplied one is at least 2AWG (35mm), could even be 1AWG (46mm) by the size of it.

Any thoughts from anyone as to the gauge of wire they are using.
I really dont want the main positive from the battery to be the weak link in the whole thing.

                    Very unimpressed with it.

                    • 2 B&S on mine mate. That thing sure looks like the weak link.

                        • Is B&S the same as AWG?
All winch specs Ive looked at recommend a minimum of 2AWG.

                            Yes, it is.

When I was researching cable for my winch I asked Derek at ABR Sidewinder what he would recommend - he said 2B&S but saying that added that he doesn't do anything bigger than 3B&S. I got my 2B&S from a local Auto Electrician.

                            • Have to get the wiring for the dash isolator switch sorted for the winch next and tidy the cables with split loom.
I need to switch the winch solenoid on and switch the rear battery charge cicuit off at the same time.

Dont like having the whole thing live all the time especially with the el-cheapo wireless remote which could go off with someones garage remote..
                              Cripes, that could be ugly!

Hopefully the snorkel arrives tomorrow so that will be the next little job.
Have to try and track down a 95mm holesaw.

You should be able to rent one for about $10-$20 from the local tool hire shop - that's what I did.
