      Thanks guys !

I ended up getting the Stebel TM80 Magnum pair, hi/lo.
They are 139 db and electric, not the air horns.
I decided to go for those rather than the big ass air horns because of reliability and mostly weight.
These electric horns put out the same volume, are really light, use a lot less power and are instentaneous.
The air horns have a little lag, not so much when new but after a while, the lag can become considerable and annoying. They are also very heavy and need a substantial mount if they are going to cop any punishment.

But really it was more about weight and the fact that Ive heard a lot of the air horn pumps fall apart on 4w drives after a bit of rough use and corrugations.

The other reason is they are going REALLY cheap at the moment......$30 a set including a relay!

Decided to make a little bracket up to take the pair, just in front of the originals and above the transmission cooler.

Wired them up to my little fuse block and a new relay.

30 x 3 aluminium angle does the job nicely, cut and bent to go on the original "sticky outy bits" that the original bar mounted on.
Very stug fit there with the original but all good.

They are very loud, very happy, money and time well spent

Fitted one of LeighW's Alternator Voltage Boosters the other day too.

Initially I couldnt get better than 13.7 volts and in the mornings my battery seemed to struggle a little.
You know when it starts to struggle just a bit and you think to yourself "wont be long now before it dies".
The charge rate seemed a bit low anyway so I got one of LeighW VB's and the improvement was noticed the very next day, when the battery just seems to have a new lease on life and doest seem to struggle anymore.

Went from 13.7 volts to 14.25 volts and everything seems happier.

Good cheap investment I reckon and 2 seconds to fit.

Been in the market for a radio, nothing serious, just for car to car mostly on days out or trips so didnt want to spend a lot.
With the introduction of 80 channel, some of the 40's are cheap as.
To and froe deciding whether I wanted remote head or all controls on the mic so everything is hidden and the handset can be removed for normal daily driving.

Anyway, came across these for $165 delivered, full 5 watts and seem ok, so I figured I cant go too far wrong.
Obviously a cheapy but worth a try.
What attracted me to it is the fact there is a speaker in the base unit and a synchronised speaker in the hanset.
Quite a few much more expensive units dont have this feature.

Its absolutely tiny and very light and seems of reasonable quality and actually better than I expected.
Power is patched into the cigarette lighter wiring so it only comes on with ignition and the main unit is hidden inside the dash below and to the left of the steering column with a couple of 5mm dome head allen key SS screws through the panel.

Extension cable socket from the unit Ive got popping out under the ashtray stuck on with double sided tape.

Mic/controller just clicks in with what looks similar to a network connection.
Just unclip and remove and youd never know there was a radio........oh well, except for maybe the antenna

Not sure if I like that position but its easy to move, its stuck on with 3M double sided tape.

This should be a good spot whilst on the move

Hopefully fit up the antenna tomorrow night.

Sound great but its no Mack, but its loud.

I think the pitch for the typical big truck is around 400hz, these are about 480 and 520hz.
These have the same volume as the best of the airhorns in their range.

I dont think you can get that MACK tone AND the volume without serious air compressors and trombones.

Tell you what though, these have certainly scared the sh*&^ out of a few people in the last couple days

This is what you want mate

Fitted up the Uniden AT870 tonight.
The ARB bar is managing to piss me off once again with no antenna mounts other than the drilled holes in the ends.
I dont want mine there preferring to have it near one of the posts.

Got one of these very solid mounts thanks to another PP inmate who put me onto them.

                              From here:

                              http://www.pefabrication.com.au/prod...html#universal.

Rang him up, caught him while he was on his tractor spraying weeds in Moree and he rushed home to put one in the post for me. Now thats service

be interested to know if your aerial bounces around all over the place when its there compared to the sides where mine looks like its going to suffer whiplash
