she's a big fridge for sure fido, yea mackayvx has an 78lt in the back of his prado, it's a squeezy but does fit in, the reason I opted for this size is the its no longer or wider than the 60 just higher.

Fair enough, I was just thinking how big my Waeco CFX65DZ is when it's sitting in the back of the 150. The 150 does have less room in the cargo area than the 120 though IIRC.

Take a look at the gear from ABR-Sidewinder, Derek's kits are pretty keenly priced and he does offer a PP discount. That's what I used and even with installation it was just a bit over a grand. I bought the isolator kit, battery cradle, and 2-way monitor with link switch from Derek and let my installer supply the wiring to the rear which included 3 plugs and a Baintech 6-way fuse block as well as a circuit breaker under the bonnet.

The kit comes with instructions and photos that are pretty clear, just need to heed the warning about only hooking up negative to the "R-" terminal. I'm happy to send you the PDFs if you want to gauge what's involved, just PM me your email address. I would have had a crack if I'd had more time but needed it done before the GTG.

You can also buy dual battery kits for less than $100 at Supercheap that are simple isolator setups with no monitor or link ability too if you are happy to crimp your own cables. You still need to add a cradle and battery to those. My pricing for the ABR setup did not include the battery.

The bullshit levels of the Hilux forum have put me off! Figure there are some touring tips in here that are worth pinching!
All good over here mate, hilux is coming along well, Nearly done the drawer/ dual battery, just replaced the stereo head unit and got a seet of diff/ gearbox breathers en route. Hows that lovely family of yours mate? Fur child settled in alright?! The prado is coming along nicely mate, a very well kitted tourer... interesting you havent shown the accelerator/brake/clutch mods you had to do though!! P

Reference dual batt instals - piece of cake mate... and you can DIY it for about a grand. I'm using a Redarc smart isolator (SBI12), Exide Marine dual purpose battery and got the cables from Repco. Have made my own tray to hold the battery in the back, but being a ute i have the luxury of space. Have done three instals of ARB dual battery kits now for mates in newer model hiluxes, it takes about a day each and half a carton (funny that my soldering gets better as the day goes on lol). Just remember, solder - not crimp, and get yourself a heap of split convolute tubing and heatshrink over the top of it. Several of the repair jobs i've done over the years were for blokes that had kits fitted 'professionally', but little stones get in to the convolute and wear through the insulation of the cables... you still got my number? Consider me your own personal dial-a-heckle cum installer!

Not a bad bunch of blokes on this forum, plenty of knowledge and plenty of talent with welders etc, family is great, fur baby growing well, loves being an inside dog, harsh about the break and accelerator mods smart A$$$. As discussed, highly recommend the RedArc gear... we had a solenoid fail on the boat near Galiwin'ku and RedArc covered it under warranty and had one there the next day. How, I'll never know, but they did it!

OK, fair enough. My understanding is that dc-dc chargers do take longer to charge a battery up. I'm running 2 lead acid batteries so my electronic isolator works a treat. Don't have any solar yet, didn't need it for the GTG as we were driving almost every day.

Only the second fuel filter which sits behind the primary filter on the passenger side, the right hand side behind the headlight is spare for the battery.

Yea I haven't decided what second battery I will run yet probably will end up running a marine battery or the like. My main crank battery is the optima yellow top,

I'd probably steer clear of a DC-DC charger - you can achieve the same outcome by using a smart solenoid (Redarc SBI12 or similar) and hooking in a seperate solar charge regulator when you want to go that option down the track. I've got the Redarc in mine and have installed quite a few, and they have the battery link to crank off the 2nd battery should the cranking battery fail. Just make sure your alternator hasnt got the variable output (dont think they do, but pays to check) because they arent compatible with some solenoids.

Well the big girl went into Toyota on Thursday for my new grill, and was finally able to replicate the vibration that I've been telling them about for the last 8 months. Turns out it's the engine mounts, new ones are on order getting them under my extended warranty, which I thought runs out on the 11th to be told I still have over three months! Winning!!

Finally my new msa ds50 drop slide arrived on Tuesday morning, sadly I had to just come straight out to start nightshift. This morning had a little more energy so decided to have a crack at installing her,

All installed fairly quickly, quality is ok, not brilliant for the money. But sadly no one has anything else of this size on the market at the moment. Looks good, operates well. Damn she's a heavy unit tho.

I had to be mindful how far back I installed it as I also have a new cargo barrier coming (should have been here two weeks ago!) thanks ARB, you lost that sale and now gave it to your competitor! The finished product

I have one of those for mine, I feel exactly the same about it, for the money I expected better. And yes, very very heavy!
