  • Packed for a weekender..

Did some experimenting with my Steinbauer module. On the way down the coast with a car full and a very full camper, averaged 13 L/100 km with it set on four. Same trip home, this time back up inland with about 20 litres less water in the camper tank and the Steinbauer turned back to position three o'clock, it went better and averaged 12.6 L/100 km.

Its going great, so will leave it set at three o'clock for a while.

    • Hi Matt
You must be happy with these fuel figures? Had you towed the camper with the V6 prior to the TD.
Mate the front storage boot on the camper has a small hatch fitted to the lower rear corner is this for pole storage.
Planning for a new storage box for our camper and was thinking along the same lines for annex pole carrying.
I would like to see a few shots, might check out your link to myswag.

      • Hi Troy. Never towed the camper with the V6 but I know at least 20 litres per hundred with that type of weight behind it. It was pretty savage on juice anyhow..

I will get some pics of the pole storage for you tomorrow.

        • Just cleaned out the catch can. About 10mm deep of oily crap and some moisture. Great to know that shit isn't going thru my turbo and inter cooler. Fitted some water proof Deutsch plugs to my driving light wiring and why bloody light suppliers light light force can't supply these expensive lights with the same type of plug, is beyond me ?

          • I ordered some superior engineering poly rear spring spacers yesterday. I have 830mm height at the moment and its not too rough. I find when I throw the camper on, it drops abut more than I want it too. 30mm spacers should sort it and cheap at under $90 delivered.

            http://www.superiorengineering.com.au/store.php?cPath=10_923_981_993

One of my rear shockies is weeping, so I pick up my warranty replacement part on Tuesday arvo, so next weekend should be a busy one working in the shed. Oh, and hopefully if Santa brings me some Drifta drawers for Xmas, the spacers might take the weight up on them also.... Ho ho ho !

            • Towed my camper to the coast today to get repaired, the wind booster made towing a lot nicer. I left it on P1 as P2 was a little harsh for towing. It went great and again, it cuts back the boost lag under my right foot. I will try and purchase one after Xmas I reckon. I also picked up my warranty rear shock and changed it out this arvo.

The shock failed with only 15k on it. The dealer was great in supplying my a free one as soon as he had stock. I changed it myself as its not a hard task, even Samo could do it !

                          Hi Brains

The booster makes it a lot nicer to tow with. I found the fuel burn was the same overall. It averaged 11.4 towing the camper (not really loaded up) down to the coast. I have turned it off and refilled the truck, I will see how it goes towing the camper home with it turned off. That will be a pretty good comparison I say.

I fitted up the 30mm rear spring spacers this arvo. That was a pretty easy job, just dropped off the sway bar mount arms, dropped the stabiliser rod and then pulled the springs, fitted the spacers and reassembled in reverse. I adjusted the adjustable rear sway bar arms and lowered them to suit the bigger lift.

I started with 830mm on a quarter of a tank left. Once the springs went back in plus the spacers, I got 855mm straight up. After a drive down to fill up the tanks and back home, I measured it at 845mm. Pretty happy the ride is still nice and I'm happy with the lift for the price. Front spacers and a 12mm more lift next on the list too do...

Hopefully if the money fairy comes, I'll be now ready for my drawers !

                            • Went down the coast and back today. Picked up my camper and towed it home. Left the wind booster in the 'off' setting the whole day. This time averaged 10.6 litres per hundred km, with the wind booster in P1 last week, the same trip returned 11.4 litres per hundred km. So as I expected, the wind booster does provide quick acceleration, but at price.

I checked the height of the rear of the car with my lifestyle 360 camper (unloaded), still getting 825mm with the camper (around 200kg ball weight) and 100 litres of fuel in the tanks. Didn't realise how heavy the camper is, but the huge steel chassis equals heavy ball weight I guess.

Brains, I will get the handbrake to return post the wind booster on Monday if she gets time. Thanks for the lend mate !

Sits abit better with the camper -
