My stock rims are close to scrap after two Simmos. Don't under estimate how much damage your going to get crossing.
In particular mount dare to purine bore.
I would fit steel rims and save the nice shiny ones for the city.

    Cheers
    Hi pradodiesel,

I was actually of the same mind as you. I started looking for steelies for the second set as I didn't want flashy, just functional. I ended up going for these ones because they were stronger. They use them for off road racing in the states and in theory, the force to break one of these is twice what you'd need to crush a steely and wrap it around your brakes anyway. The flash bothered me for a while but I'm getting used to it now. Anyway, they did the Simpson crossing last year without missing a beat and will be heading off for a Cape York trip in a few weeks. Very happy with them so far.

Sounds like they might be a tuff wheel.
My mates ranger alloy rims were toast after one crossing. The rocks took out major alloy.
All the best for the cape.

Thanks mate. Certainly no damage from our trip and considering the sizeable rocks the roads are made of out there, I'm definitely happy with them. Can't wait for the cape. Should be great.

Got my light bars fitted up today. 30" for the main light and 2 small ones to point at the side of the track if I get caught on tight tracks at night. Now I just need to wait for night time to see how they go.

Nah mate, you read my mind though. I was just thinking if I could figure out a place to try them. Any suggestions? The best I can think of is down at the park next to the pool on Kingston road (little creek on the other side) and point them across the fields. Out of luck if there's something on and it's lit up though. Otherwise the same thing at the soccer fields on meakin road. Happy to hear other suggestions if you've got them though. Looking to head out after the boys go to bed about 7:30 if you want to join.

Hey matt, yep. It's not mine so I borrowed it off mum yesterday and thought I may as well tie it up and leave it there to save me tying it up twice. We head up tomorrow. My oldest is in nippers and he is getting into board training this year so his board is up there too and we'll chuck the kayak and board in at lake Mackenzie. He can get a bit of practice paddling and the wife can follow him around on the kayak to make sure he doesn't drown. Nice and calm way to get him used to deeper water.

Very happy with how the light bars performed. Hard to capture in pictures but the little side pointing ones did exactly what I was hoping. Came out of a track to turn left and couldn't see what I was turning onto even with the high beams on. Flicked the light bars on and I get a good lit up area basically as far back as my mirrors. Very happy.

Took a few comparison shots on one of the straighter tracks. Low beams:

                            High beams:

                            Light bars:

The photos don't do it justice but where the track turned a couple of hundred metres ahead, the lights had lit up the tree trunks. Very happy with the results.

Also took it down on the beach to see if they would be any good in the sea spray (high beams are useless as they just light up the spray and you don't see the ground). There wasn't much spray tonight but from what there was, it looked like the bar would still cut through and light up the ground better than just relying on fog lights as I have in the past. I might have another look tomorrow.

Just came from meeting Tin and getting one of his water tanks fitted up. Awesome bit of kit. As soon as I figure our where I'm going to put the tap, I'll post up some pics. One of the last things on the list before we're prepped and ready for the Tassie GTG.

Great build Tiny! Just looking at your diy dune flag, genius!
I'll be making one of those up :-)

                                Cheers,
