We had one on our 80 series cruiser because we had it on LPG (belly tank), nowhere else to mount the spare except for the roof otherwise. Don't recall what we paid back then as it was all done pre-delivery. It was a bit of a pain having to swing the arm out to get in the tailgate which was the flip up/swing down split door.

Same here and we use the back all the time. My mum uses a wheelie walker so getting that in and out when I take her out is already a pain in itself with the floor being that bit higher than the old 95 series.

There were actually 2 of them and they ganged up on me! They were side by side next to a post which stopped them from simply falling over.

Yes I was distracted by the smell of fresh latte, that's my excuse anyway. Oddly the sensor didn't yell at me like it normally does, must have been the angle or something. It did beep but only when I hit it, a bit too late IMO. Yes I have a rear camera but green bins blend in to green fences very well when it is raining and getting dark.

You can get them without the wheel carrier or jerry can holder attachments but I don't see the point other than it provides extra rear protection.

My wife back ours into another car. It was raining at the time and she said the sensors never went off. I had the same idea about getting a rear bar, but came to the same conclusion that i still needed part of the bumper - the part which was damaged. $550 + GST seems a bit steep, unless there's other issues behind the plastic. I remember Toyota spare parts dept quoting me a similar number for the entire bar (painted).

The Touch Up Guys can work some pretty good magic with these sorts of things. might be worth giving them a call.

Thanks Mike, I was looking at their site earlier so will ask them for a quote as well. The panel beater told me the bar needs to come off to fix the damage and there's a bit of work in doing that as I also have the towbar fitted.

I rang my local dealer but they were qouting $500ish for a raw unpainted bar.

The Touch Up Guys man finally came round today and is quoting me $360 plus GST. It's another $200 plus GST if I want my bush pin stripes buffed out. Still tossing up which way to go as I'm uncertain if the mobile guy can do as good a job on the paint as my local panel shop.

Well after Mr Fido made an over enthusiastic entry to a creek crossing off a downhill slope at Wombat State Forest last Sunday my factory bash plate (the under engine one) now looks like this :-

A close up view of the damage :-

The other side (still has some Wombat clay stuck to it, there was more) :-

You can see on the 2nd and 3rd pic how the plate is all mangled on the right side of the pic, must have hit a rock or tree stump entering the narrow creek crossing. There was a big bang when it happened so I was expecting to find some damage.

It should look something like this :-

Took the plate off today to try and bash the ding out as everyone keeps saying these things are like tin foil. Well they're not like tin foil when you try and bash them back into shape LOL. All I managed to do was bash one of my fingers with the mallet, could not budge the dent itself. Have put the plate back on for now, might have to get some aftermarket stuff now.

Seems we're doing the same damage to our cars. I bashed mine a few weeks ago and am now looking at other options.

Have had the Ironman bash plates on my GXL for about a year and they have done the job very well so far. Big improvement over the factory ones and reasonable price too.

How did you damage yours Mike?

Have looked into the Ironman plates previously. They weren't sure if their plates would fit with the TJM radiator plate but invited me to come in and they would check it out. Might have to take them up on the offer now, as you say the price is quite reasonable.

Have also looked into Bushskinz but they don't do them for the KDSS equipped models yet.

It was during my first adventure to Fraser. I've done a write up here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...e-how-it-feels

The bump in this video is where the beach meets the erosion matting. I've filled in most of the hole before we came off the beach, but the first time i came up i hit the hole at about 60kph and nosedived into the ground.

                    • Hi Fido666,

The Ironman bash plates fit with a TJM T13 bar without a problem. Had both on my Prado for quite a while now.

Thanks for confirming that Dave. When I looked at the pics on their site it seemed the sump guard came up further forward than the Toyota one. My TJM Radiator Guard sits right up against the factory sump guard so I thought they might clash.

Did you get 2 plates or 3 with your Ironman kit?

                        • Got all 3 plates, send me a PM if you want any photos as don't want to add them to your build thread.

                          • Picked up my spare wheel and got the new tyre fitted to it today :-

2 pack paint with satin clear finish, looks pretty schmick. It's a shame the wheels on the car don't look this good anymore, they're sporting some scuffs and scrapes now from the last daytrip to the Wombat State Forest.

Maybe PP liked it so much it added a few extra posts of it.

                              • LOL, thanks but I think it was just slow response issues. I clicked on "stay on page" but still got extra posts.

Forgot to mention the wheels already on the corners had been sent to the painters by the previous owner. I found out where he got them done and took the unpainted rim (still had the original unused Grandtrek on it) to them. Powdercoating the rim would have been cheaper but it wouldn't have matched. At least I have the Grandtrek to sell to offset the cost.
