Ha ha - White is just a cleaner looking colour! I'll need to play in the red stuff a bit more (not that there is much of that in Tassie). I'm sure it will look like it has been playing in the dirt as we head out west!

After a couple of weeks testing the trial location, I think we have a winner! Scangauge is easy to see, without it being in the way of the instrument panel, and the cord has moulded itself in position well, so the door isn't knocking it when closed. Happy days!

        • Very neat there Ben. Have only even seen them on the steering column so good to see someone thinking outside the box.

Thanks Vaughan. Really happy with this placement. I was considering a mount off the rear view mirror, but running the cable was an issue, and more dollars, so decided against that whilst we trialled this location. Credit really needs to go the the wife, as she very strongly opposed the placement in front of the instrument panel and suggested where it now sits.

Unfortunately they are not the prettiest things, but the information they provide is excellent.

            • Thought I'd tidy up the opening post to make it a bit easier to follow. What a PITA! Done now, so hopefully worthwhile.

Ordered some 3D mats today to help keep the car a bit tidier on our 5 week road trip coming up.

              • Considerring putting a catch can in, but not being that mechanically minded, I am not sure of a couple of things:
                - Does the can need to be placed lower than the intake, or is there some sort of positive feed to it that will enable excess oil vapour to deposit into the can properly?
                - Is there a suitable unit that will fit in the location next to my compressor? The Provent Unit looks pretty big, and I don't have a lot of space under the bonnet any more...
                - Can a Bean Counter (such as myself) do this, or should I get a mechanic to fit for me? I have done the majority or mod's to my vehicle on my own so far, just lack a little knowledge...

                Any advice greatly appreciated

                • Look at my build - but I have a second battery behind the drivers' headlight. So I mounted out from second fuel filter.

I bought mine from WesternFilter on eBay as this is the real deal.

Looking at others, I routed the hose from the turbo in behind the intake of the intercooler to avoid the heat from exhaust. The Roo says to leave the pipe in, but I didn't. The kit that I bought had hoses designed for Patrols - so be aware of that. Though I got around the issue using reduction barbs and hose clamps.

Thanks for that. I have an issue with your location due to second battery as well. Do you reckon a provent unit would fit near my compressor?

Also, do the hoses need to run downward towards the catch can, or doesn't it matter?

Cheers Heath. I found this earlier today and liked the look of it. Did you make your own bracket?

                            • Yep, just cut down a steel bracket from mitre 10, and hit it with some black spray paint.
The hardest bit of this job is going to pirteck and getting the right size hoses!

Taking the intercooler off takes a bit of courage for the non mechanically skilled, but seriously there is nothing hard here.

Just make sure that the hose clamps are on tight, otherwise it will make an interesting noise!

There is on the right side, where the EGR is, a very small 2mm hose - make sure that it doesn't come off. I discovered that the hard way, engine goes into limp mode, which makes interesting driving!

What I found easiest for me, there is one of the EGR sensors at the front with the 2mm hose, 10mm socket and off it comes. Much easier than trying to remove the plug from the cable harness. Just tuck out of the way, then you are free to "jiggle" the intercooler off, without worry of wrecking a sensor.
