Ordered a Scangague II today and just got confirmation of its departure from Ample Outdoors, so another pressie for me to arrive in the mail shortly... Hopefully this will help keep an eye on that annoying "Engine Check Light" if it pops its head up again!

Ha Ha - yes some dollars spent, but some dollars saved too. Most of the add ons have been bought at Agfest or at times of product promotion, and good deals had (ARB are more than happy to shed a few dollars to make a sale). Also saved heaps by doing a lot of the instals myself. Can justify the cost by using the rig for what it is intended for. The more camping and touring we do, the less money spent on other types of lodgings.

Following Palmer's lead, I decided to acquire a couple of 18W work lights from Mr Internet. They arrived last week.


Got most of the wiring done over the weekend, and just need to bolt the lights on.

Finished off the rear lights, and for the small $65 price tag for the two - very happy...

Found a bare image in my archives of the camping / fridge box installed in the car. The loaded image posted at post #7 makes it look cluttered. One day I might build a set of drawers to the left of the fridge and replace this setup, but for the moment this simple design serves its purpose well.

Nothin to it, really. I bought some 20mm Angle section steel and cut two pieces to required length (the driver's side was limited in length to the shelf on that side). I bolt it to the camping box (3 bolts on the LHS and 2 on the RHS), and use wing nuts on the outside for easy removal, as these uprights need to come off before I can get the box out.

The rope I used is window sash cord - strong and fine, and I have inserted wire ballustrading eyelets into the steel uprights to stop the rope fraying on the steel.

I can take the uprights off the box with the rope still threaded, which saves time re-installing.

Probably doesn't meet regulation, but it is better than nothing, and we only keep the clothes luggage on top of the box, so at least it is soft.

Cool - thanks for that - I've just packed up for a car rally in the "dirt" roads in behind Geeveston, so I am thinking about building a shelf system. Though I have to convince the other half, that the third row seats aren't required....

Good luck with that. I am subject to the same pressure, and my box solution suits the needs for SWMBO as it is easily removed, but robust enough for camping requirements (bolts to the third row anchor points). My plan is that it will stay in most of the summer, and come out in the cooler months. Having 3 littlies means that the third row seats are sometimes required to pick up strays that my kids want to play with after school, etc, so a permanent solution isn't an option.

Haven't had a look yet, but hopefully the Scangauge is easy to plug in (not exactly sure where the socket is).


The breather kit looks a little more complicated to instal, and though I have been through the related posts, this is not something I am feeling confident with. Still haven't been able to locate all 4 breather outlets under the vehicle.

The front and rear diff are easy to get at and easy to do. Likewise the transfer case though you have to get down under the car and reach up and pull it down to get decent access. Now the manual box breather I think (relying on memory) is screwed into the top of the gearbox. There are a couple of posts including Matt who made some comments about the breather. I think you need to get to it from the console and screw in an elbow and extend from there.



The little sucker you want is 33101U.

Do you reckon I would be able to get this done on the ground? I'm not a big bloke, so plenty of crawl space underneath for me now the lift is done?

Come on Ben, you were only saying it was going to take just an hour to do the breather kit the other day.

I know I can't talk as I have not done mine so waititng to see how you go with yours.

The ScanGauge plug is up under the dash near the steering wheel if I remeber correctly when reading the thread about them a while ago.

Hope you are leaving time to come up with thoughts and ideas for the Tassie GTG 2015 but also for your trip later on this year?

No need to jack up the car you can reach up for the transfer case breather from the ground and the other two are easy too.
