I know I can't talk as I have not done mine so waititng to see how you go with yours.

The ScanGauge plug is up under the dash near the steering wheel if I remeber correctly when reading the thread about them a while ago.

Hope you are leaving time to come up with thoughts and ideas for the Tassie GTG 2015 but also for your trip later on this year?
It was only going to take an hour when my mechanic mate was going to do it for me, but he got a bout of gastro so i decided to avoid our workshop session, leaving me to sort it out on my own.

Thanks again for your hospitality on the weekend, and yes plenty of time to put to planning the 2015 gtg. The big WA trip is only one school term away now, so that's the main focus, and not doing any more mods other than these two until we get back. Got the car in pretty good touring shape now so time to test it all out.

Thanks mjrandom. Will give it a go. I need to pull the centre console out again anyway, so will tackle the gearbox then.

        • Got the Scangauge plugged in after about 30 seconds, and am impressed with the readouts it provides - Not sure where to mount it yet though.

Temporarily tried it on the dash behind the steering wheel and infront of the instrument panel, but being a little on the short side it wasn't ideal (depending on how far forward it is, it either blocks the instrument panel, or I can't fully see it) - I could have lived with it, but SWMBO said "No Way!" so looking for an alternative. Currently testing off to the right above the Drivers side air vent, which might be OK, but when the door closes, it is pushing the cable and I don't think the unit will stay seated correctly over the long term.

          Any advice from others appreciated...

            Ah, blocking the speedo.....

I don't know the cable length - but *could* it be fed through the vent and mounted on the windshield?

            • Smithy I think there is a bracket available that lets the scangauge mount to the rear view mirror. I vaguely rememeber someones build with it up there. Try the scangauge website. Hopefully someone with better data than me can jump in now...

I think the cable would be long enough, not sure about the positioning though - worth a look - thanks for the idea.

Thanks for your input mjrandom. That might work, but any thoughts on how to hide the cable?

                  • No idea! I guess you can tuck it up under the windscreen trim. I said tuck by the way.

                      You're a legend mjrandom!

Blendmount do a windscreen suction mount too, so a few options to consider. So far SWMBO is happy with test location above drivers side air vent (her daily driver), so will see of I need an alternative or not...

                        Cheers,
Hi Dueler120, thanks for the compliment.

I don't know why, but every time I intend to tackle the breathers, I get disheartened and think it is too hard - I have done most other mods myself, and have been up to the challenge, given lack of practical training or experience, but this one's got me lacking confidence.

I haven't done anything with it yet, other than locate the rear diff breather (that's the easy one to find, but not sure how / where to run the breather tube to the front), I know where the front diff breather sits up under the bonet, but haven't located the diff outlet yet, and I have installed the breather mounting block to make me feel like I achieved something on the weekend (getting pushed for space under the bonnet, and have mounted it on the driver's side of the engine bay behind the air filter as that was the only place I could find a nut and some space to mount it. I think this location will be OK, but I will have to watch the exhaust when bringing the tubes through from underneath.

Any tips and pics you are able to provide me with would be much appreciated.

                        • Smithy the front diff is the easiest to do, just rip the head off the existing tube and put in a joiner and run it wherever you want to put the breathers, actually I think the blue tube fits neatly inside... The rear is also easy. Take out the existing breather and screw in a fitting for the tube and then run the tube on or in the LH chassis rail. You can cable tie it to fuel lines etc and it will run straight up into the engine bay. The transfer case is just a matter of gently pulling it out of the clips and dropping it down to extend it. This is where I don't know how to connect that to the tube. I ran 1/4" fuel hose so made up a 1/" to 1/4" hosetail adapter. Then the gearbox as far as I can tell or remember you need to remove the console and then unscrew the breather fitting and screw in a right angle fitting and again just run the hose forward. If you go to my rig build amongst the possums under this post I have linked to the various breather threads if you work though the posts.

                          • Thanks mjrandom you make it sound so easy! I have a couple of elbows with my BRC breather kit, so hopefully the thread will fit.

I will start with the rear then, and maybe cut the existing front breather shorter and follow your advice. I was going to remove it altogether, but i guess i don't really need to, given it is already plumbed.

Might wait and see if Dueller120 manages to get his transfer case and gear box done before i tackle them...

                            • Not sure the top of the front diff is that easy to get to even with the bash plates off. Easy to extend what's already there. Give Matt mr 4x4 a pm about the manual, I helped a mate do a manual P.... And we had to fit a nipple and then an elbow because you couldn't turn the elbow directly into the top of the box.
