    I had been toying with the idea of getting spotties, and just so happened on Facebook a pair of 35W HID converted Hella Rallye 4000 were for sale!

    The price was a bargain - even paying the "Tassie Tax" (shipping), they still ended up being less than half price of new.

    So, with that in mind - my first purchase is two new switches (one to replace my LED lightbar as well):


    I don't know if the pictures posted show it well enough, but there was oxidizing, pitting and chipping on the base and rings - so, I have started the process and removed the powder coating and have applied base primer:





    Because the weather has turned down here, I'm going to leave them for a few days to dry.

      Sadly, it is over. 2 major engine "issues", have written it off.

      Though stay tuned, got a couple that I am looking at! 😆😄

        Ouch! What happened? Did you ever finish off those lights? My IPFs have started to lose their clear coat on the rear part, need to rejuvenate them.

          Look you have got heaps of time to build up another Prado before the Tassie GTG.

            Thanks, but that will be pretty easy - I have most of the bits that "weren't covered" out of the 120. I have a very, very full Subaru Outback.

            Mrs. Cfryback, doesn't like the idea of a 6" lift and 35's on HER Outback for some reason....

              Fuel contamination, over fueling. Not wanting to re-build the re-build again. I've lost way too much on it. Looking at petrol's now. Have got 2 lined up. Seeing one tomorrow.

              Lights are still a work in progress. Because I have more time than money, I am picking away at it.

              If I had the cash, I would have gotten them re-powder coated.

                Fair enough. Mine just need a re-spray or something, have seen a pair colour-coded to the vehicle they were on that looked good. I did the HID conversion myself, internal ballasts on mine.

                      D4Detonation.........Long and short, contaminated fuel. Lead to failure of injectors to over fuel. #1 Cylinder has about 1mm "slap" in it.

                      Yes, and thankfully AAMI covers contaminated fuel. Though it did take about 2 hours lodge the claim over the phone to the call center.

                      $16.5K to "repair" the bottom end. So, I would be repairing the repair....
                      There was the suggestion to get it fixed and sell, but I couldn't in good conscious push that kind of thing on someone else.

                      Lets just say, with agreed value, I'm about $20K out of pocket ($13 of that was first engine rebuild)...

                            So is this one a V6?

                            Does the GTG Committee need to have a working bee at your place to get it ready for the GTG?

                              Appreciate the offer - but it is one of Jennings friends that works at ARB Hobart.

                              GXL, with pretty much a VX upgrade done. Plus ARB goodness! That and all the bits taken from the written off Prado.
