Crammy its only money - you cant take it with you. I went into Tyre power yesterday and enquired about the speedy wheels too as well as trading grandcraps on STs. $60 trade - whoopee!! I dont think my 17' wheels on camper have the right offset for prado so may have to change them and will use 3 speedy grandes plus an extra spare for the big trips. Do you know whether the wheelnuts are interchangeable. I think I read somewhere that they are not the same. Anyway, keep spending money mate.

Joey, were your seven hills repairs or real money??

      Cheers

        Hey Kev,

You can do much better than $60.. They told me in there they don't sell dunlops and don't want too... seems that why you got the crappy price. Try Goodyear up the other end of lyons st or beaurepairs on the access road, they offered me $150 a tyre for AT20s.

Not too sure about the wheel nuts, will just keep them with the wheels when they're off the car.

              Kroe,
Did you try PRIENS TYRE SERVICE at Gordonvale? They were about $10 a tyre cheaper than tirepower for my Coopers and I got a good trade on the Grandtreks. $50 a tyre for the 4 that had been on the road (1000k) and $250 for the spare.

              Cheers,
              Kevin

Thanks guys, I'll have to shop around this weekend as the new truck has finally turned up. Stoke of luck really - I hear the truck that was going to bring my prado up tipped over the previous trip with full load of cars. I dont think I could cope with another 3 mth wait.

PS Sorry for hijacking your thread Crammy.

                Cheers

Installed my GME TX3440 today... Well installed it properly anyway, it's been temporarily installed under the drivers seat for the last couple of weeks.

There's not really much to wiring up the radio, I haven't documented everything I've done as you'll find the info has already been covered on here before, I did manage to find a great spot for the "brain" of the 3440 under the steering column using an existing 8mm bolt on the brake pedal assembly. I had to change the bolt as the one that comes out has a thick washer attached that you can't get off, if you use it you can't get the radio on to the bracket.

It only needs the one bolt as it's big enough to hold the bracket no probs. It actually fits really well and the only problem with it is it causes the bottom cover to bulge slightly, but no biggy.

Excuse the mess of wires! ops:

(And no, it doesn't interfere with the pedals! woohoo! 8) )

I ran the 12v from my dual battery distribution box, and grabbed the negative from here.

                  And the finished product.

I ended up using some of that 3m double sided tape stuff that comes with their picture hooks to mount the mic holder, it works a treat.

                  Cheers,

                  Crammy

Very nice Crammy, try a dob of All-Clear behind your mike holder as the double sided tape will let go after a few weeks, it seems to loose its grip after a few hot days with the vehicle left in the sun and our wonderfull humidity doesn't help.
The Selleys All- Clear trick has held my TX/RX unit and my mike holder for years up here in past 4wd's.

Had my MTZs (265x70xR17) and Speedy Grande's (17'x7.5') fitted yesterday, the rims are an exact copy of the prado rims at less than 1/4 the price per rim! 8) They're a slightly different offset to the standard rims so it may be possible to fit some 285's but I'm not sure. There seems to be quite a bit more room between the rim and the brake caliper. Oh and the OE nuts don't fit the speedy rims (tapered) and they're also a different size nut, so you need to be careful and make sure you either take a socket set or get another tyre lever with you when out in the rough stuff.

The MTZ's are taking a bit of getting used to noise wise, but what do you expect after coming from AT's. They're particularly noisy between 80-100km/h, although the missus said she couldn't tell until I told her what to listen for!

Couple of pics on the car

One of the fellas at work turned up some spacers for me to fit behind the spare wheel carrier. I ended up making them 30x30mm which leaves plenty of room for the wheel to go on. Also had to buy some longer bolts to suit the spacers. I went for 10mm x 50mm High tensile bolts. You need to get the 10mm bolts with a 1.25mm pitch as it's not a standard pitch.

The speedy rims are on special at the moment so if you're keen for a set now's the time. I picked mine up for $220 per rim, so you should be able to get them for this price if not cheaper from any speedy retailer.

Getting the rest of the gear fitted monday so stay tuned (winch, snorkel and rhino rack.

                        Cheers,

                        Crammy

                          Hi Crammy,
You must have shares in a gold mine mate, but looking good, those MTZ will get you anywhere around the ridges but keep them off the bitumen, then again for our bitumen roads they are probably the go  sorry just had to fit that remark in.

Ok she's finally coming closer to being complete for our Cape trip in June and also other camping trips around the traps up here. Being that the most of our camping trips will only be the 2 of us, I wanted to make sure we are a good chance at getting out of any trouble that we may encounter.

The snorkel was a must, especially after filling up the airbox with water within the first 2 weeks of ownership! It's cheap insurance when you're doing a few crossings which is not uncommon up here in the North.

I ended up getting the snorkel and winch fitted as I won't get a chance to fit it all myself before we head off.

The boys from Tyrepower up here fitted it all up for me. After we nutted out the best solution for the solenoids, it took them a couple of days to get it all done. I ended up getting the solenoid pack put up under the bonnet to keep it protected from the savage conditions Joey regularly takes us through up here! haha Seriously it's the best thing you can do for your solenoids, keep them dry and dust free for reliable use down the track.

Engine bay getting a bit cramped now... Or should I say things are Crammed in! There's just enough room to get it in... There's no chance of fitting anything else under here from now on!

The socket connection off the solenoid box was moved inside the cabin for minimal fuss when operating without having to lift the bonnet, and the remote can still be used outside the car for hairy winching operations (hopefully never).

I ended up going for a mid range winch and did plenty of reading up on the T-max winches. The yanks seem to have a good run out of them and according to 4x4 monthly's winch tests it scored 3 out of 5 which the warn also managed to get. I guess the thing you pay for when buying a warn winch is the lifetime warranty. The Tmax gets a 3 year limited.

I was only chasing a 9,000lb tmax but ended up getting a 10,000lb for the same price. all up installed was around the $1k mark. Seems to be a quality piece of gear.

Also got some rhino HD roof racks and AT1510 alloy tray for the trip. I put these together myself... It's a very straight forward job to put it all together and fit up. The rhino stuff comes with all the instructions and tools you need except for a 13mm spanner or socket which you need. It's great gear and money well spent.

                              HD roofies on.

Cape ready with all the bits.

Only major thing left to get will be a cargo barrier. And minor bits will be hi-lift jack, 100mm pipe on the roofies for the rods, winch extension strap, tree trunk protector and snatch block. After that... I'll have to start planting 5c coins in the backyard and hope they grow!

                              Cheers,

                              Crammy
