HID's work a treat. Can't complain at all, I just need to muck around a bit more with the adjustment on the spotties. I'm glad I went the 4300k globes as even they've got a slight blue tinge which I'm still getting used to.

Anyway barrier went in tonight thanks to Joey and $Da GiMp$ hehe It was a bit of a mission to fit up as the whole back end needs to be stripped out to install it but we got there in the end. Joey has a few install pics.

We put in the standard Milford barrier which supposedly will not fit with dual airconditioning but it does. Maybe they're confused with dual airbags I'm not sure.

My Ranox arrived today so I'll get to installing that soon I hope. It wont be for a few weeks yet though. It looks like a great little unit. It's much smaller and lighter than what I imagined.

      Will keep you posted.

      Cheers,

          Re: Crammy's GXL D4D

          (Taken from RanOx thread http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4117)

Well I finally got around to installing my RanOx charger! I spent a few night tinkering in the shed to come up what I think should do the trick and keep me happy for a while!!

It's a pretty serious install, not tooooo complicated just quite a bit of wiring.

I ended up running 35mm2 +12v to the rear to power all the gear. What I'm running at the moment is:

          1 x 600w inverter
          1 x 20A standard socket
1 x Hello socket for the Waeco
          1 x Absorbed power AGM
          1 x RanOx battery booster
2 x 100A fuse blocks (1 for aux battery other for cranking battery)
          2 x Change over relays

Of course all of the above won't be running at the same time so hopefully my cable sizing should keep the RanOx running efficiently.

          Rear Install location.

RanOx installed on rear compartment door.

Anderson Plugs, 1 for the Aux battery and 1 for the inverter.

RanOx sitting idle monitoring both Main cranking battery and Aux battery

Setup as finished and running (Will be getting smaller battery box for Absorbed Power AGM, pic shows my other big berther AGM)

Overall rear shot with inverter mounted (Just need to fit off inverter wiring)

Overall everything seems to be running well. I installed the fridge after I took the shots and the battery fits in very nicely behind the space at the back. The RanOx is completely set and forget. It sits idle monitoring both batteries and automatically detects the engine is running and starts charging once it's verified the engine is running. Once this happens it changes the supply to the 2 plugs from the aux battery to the main battery.

The only thing I've noticed so far is that the cooling fan is quite audible in the back when stationary with no radio on. Once moving you can't hear it much at all.

          Cheers,

          Crammy

                  Hey Michael,

The lights are performing exceptionally well, a huge improvement over the standard lights. Haven't been flashed once yet and light up the road quite nicely in deed.

I purchased mine off a Chinese seller on eBay. I bought mine just before the dollar dropped so they've probably gone up a bit since then.

                  Here's the seller I purchased from: http://stores.ebay.com.au/Xeaz_HID-xeno ... idZ2QQtZkm

                  You'll need the H4-3 hi/lo kit or bi-xenon.

                  Cheers,

                    Hey Matt,

Thanks for the kind words... Where does it end with the rigs?? There's always something that you want!! It's crazy but good fun at the same time. I've got another suspension mod coming up to lift the front up 20mm and next, dare I say it, the last thing for a while maybe a rear locker (Gotta love tax returns!).

Mate I couldn't be happier with the MTZ's. I was only thinking the other day that I'd get another set when they wear out... Which probably wont be for a while since I only use them for the fun stuff. For an everyday tyre they've got pretty good road manners. They haven't let me down yet, I haven't needed a recovery and they've done quite a bit of heavy offroading, including the cape trip, with only one split tread block. I haven't even had a puncture.

They're great in the mud and the sidewall biters crawl out of ruts pretty well. Gravel is awesome too with predictable response and a smooth ride at the right pressures.

So in answer to your question I rekon they're rippers. There's obviously going to be some differences to my AT3's but here's what I've found.

 Much noiser than near dead quiet AT3's (This is always going to be a given)
 Tread wear seems to be about middle of the road, not the best but not to bad... Averaging about 1mm per 1000kms. (Softer compound than STT's)
 Increased fuel consumption (Given with a much heavier tyre, trust me they weigh a tonne... AT3's are as light as feather in comparison!)
 Road handling not quite as good, but still good for a 60/40 or 80/20. (depends which review you read)
 Wet bitumen grip surprisingly good!
 Awesome in the rough stuff.
 Loose surface handling excellent, very predictable. Can pull up a steep loose gravel hill without centre diff locked with next to zero wheel spin where AT's in 2WD requires 4x4 activation.
 Awesome in the mud, side biters crawl out of ruts well.
 No sand real great sand experience, but from what beach driving we did up the cape performed brilliantly.
                    Puncture resistance fantastic.
 Fill the guards in nicely
 Missus friendly (Except can't fit in the work carpark with them on!)
 Only really let down by the crappy prado LSD!

                    Hope this helps!

                    Cheers,

                    • Re: Crammy's GXL D4D

Latest mod today was to get the ATS premium kit lifted up the front. It's been giving me the irits with the ass up in the air for a while now but I finally got around to getting it done today.

I had an extra groove machined into the front struts, 10mm higher than the highest existing. This gave me an extra 20mm lift which I am stoked about now. Funnily enough the place where I took it recommended changing the ridepro springs as they said they were too soft for the weight I had in the front. Not sure whether this was just a sales pitch or what?

So it's gone from 770mm bottom of rim to guard to 790mm. Much happier now!

                      Before:

                      After:

It hasn't changed the handling at all which is great and best of all it looks much better!

i think you will find ( especially now i have just swapped alloy for steel). thats the difference is about 40kg.
with the alloy you have the extra of the winch cradle , about another 30odd kgs.
but once you have arb bar , winch , dual batteries it becomes heaps heavier than alloy set up...

                            Hey Matt,

I beleive you may have a slightly different setup. 790mm on my rig is the highest I can go before I top the shocks out... Maybe you have longer stroke shocks and a different spring to mine? Also all of the later kits from Darren all sit at 770mm with the same setup as mine as confirmed by Darren a while back. Not sure why this is the case as I never got any confirmation from Darren why the kit was setup this way.

I was also interested in the comment from the suspension place I took it to who said the spring rate was to soft for the weight I had... The weight was the same when I ordered the kit from Darren so not sure who is giving the right information here. Either way I can't complain now...

Joey didn't you say yours didn't drop with the ARB bar? This would indicate no significant difference in weight between the two?

This is the report as quoted from the suspension specialists here in Cairns. These guys are an Australia wide company.

Coils fitted to vehicle have 17mm wire, 11 1/4 turns and 373mm free length, approx 549LBS Rate (feel quite soft). Application due to load bearing accessories fitted to the vehicle, steel bar/winch etc. *Kings raised coils KTFR-101 17mm wire 9 1/4 turns 373mm free height 660LBS rate *Kings heavy duty raised coils KTFR-101HD 18mm, wire 10 turns, 370mm free length 800lb rate. This coil will raise front of vehicle and give much better rate than the coils fitted. Has steel bullbar/winch. Owner did not want to change coils, wanted to keep vehicle soft ( ops: ). Front bilstein shocks had spring seat set on top circlip groove, have had an extra circlip groove machined 10mm up from original top groove at owners request.
How's that for a "COP THAT"! I'd like to know Darrens thoughts on this... It's either a " You didn't buy from us so we'll stick it up ya" or it's a fair assessment of the ATS premium kit...

                              Cheers,

                              Crammy :?

Hey Crammy I read your comment about joining the earths together as they wouldn't fit on the battery terminal, your pic

Had the same problem fitting my winch so the fitter 'remade' the main earth into a lug, thoughts...
