New boots fitted today. Much nicer to drive.. the standard tires are just too soft on the walls. You can feel them rolling on corners. New mickey t stz's 275/70/17 on 8inch rims. Puts the speedo almost smack on when comparing it to gps.Unfortunately the spare doesn't fit the kaymar bar and I am going to have to knock up a spacer, even at full adjustment. Can't use the cover plate with the padlock tab either, but not too fazed about that.

Sidesteps are at the powdercoaters so I'll have them fitted by the weekend.

Can I ask what rims they are, what they set you back and what dealer?

The rims are CSA Jackal's. I think pretty much everyone does CSA rims, but I dealt with Ian Diffen in malaga. Rims were $220 (same for just about all the CSA 4wd rims apparently), and a big kick in the teeth at $450 for the rubber.

Found out this morning that apparently kaymar does have alternate parts to be able to fit the new rims on the carrier, but at $205 for the sliding mount and another $56 for the locking plate I think I will just make a spacer plate and use wheel locking nuts. After paying $4.5k for the kaymar bar, you'd just about think they would give you the option or just supply it.

The kaymar bars are really nice, but I don't think they are worth what they charge.

Sidesteps installed during the week. They came out quite nice for a prototype. There would be a couple of small changes to the cutouts if I do it again tho to make it fit the curves of the body better.

Yea I had thought about it and someone else said the same thing the other day. I want to trial them a bit over the christmas break but can't see any reason for problems. Wouldn't take too long to knock up a second set now that I've worked out the hard way of doing things. I will prob look into it in a few weeks.

Cheers Golly. I'm seeing more and more perth names in posts - good to see..

How are the sidesteps attached to the vehicle?

At the moment with a heap of the captive nuts in the chassis rail. On their own I wouldn't entirely trust them for rock crawling, but there is no movement whatsoever with them alone. There is provision for 3 or 4 bolts going through the chassis on each side, I just haven't actually gone and bought them yet.

The bending and laser cutting get done elsewhere, but yea I design it and weld it up. Can't be bothered painting anymore either when powder coat is so much better and not too expensive.

They look like a solid piece of kit, very impressive. I wish I could get someone down here in Mexico to make me a set, V6 KDSS equippedf Prados are not catered for by the name brands.
