Can you use a big magnet to tease the end of the rod back up to a point you can reach it? Have a look in the recovery point threads (there's a couple) to see how others have done it.

      Hey fido

Well thing was I got hold of it. I just couldn't get it out the hole because the rod connected to the nut isn't just thin so u can bend it easy. It's a about 10mm wide and 5mm thick. So they must have poked it through the front of the chassis. I will have a crack at it again tomorrow.
I will also try find out how others got theirs out though to see if I can make life a bit easier.

Well thanks to You fido I persisted a little bit and got both the nuts out. Only took like 10mins I think. Pulled the rod end out first then was able to bend it around and get the but end out. I had an extendable rod with a magnet on the end ( came with my king chrome tool box). Never had a use for it till now. Then once I move it up so I could see it I then hooked it and pulled it out the hole on the side of the chassis right where the tyre is.
Saved me alot of frustration listening to it rattle away until I got the bullbar off.

Also just on a side note for people that may want to put the Arb switch in the same spot as I did, that double slot actually come out from the back not the front. So you have to take that panel off (which is very easy) to be able to remove it. I trimmed a few mm off the surround to get the switch to fit in. You might not even have to if you push hard enough :-P

            Cheers

Well I got out on Saturday up to Two Rocks/Wilbinga and gave the Prado a good test. And I have to say I am over the moon on how it handles all the corrugations and bumps and just all the sand dunes in general. Just soaks it all up nicely and just makes it for such a nice drive. The bilsteins were a good choice I think.

Power wise I was pretty happy most of the time. Was just when I was going up some hills will pretty soft sand it would have been good to have the extra torque and a few extra Kws. Still made it up the hill but could feel it bogging down a lot. So I will be looking at doing snorkel and exhaust pretty soon I think. Then eventually get the power chip. Bit overall it has plenty of grunt for most of the things I pointed it at.

Drove up on a wrecked car to try and test the flex on the rear but only got so far because the car kept crumbling. But still flexed pretty decent. Nothing like the 100 series I had but the Prado isn't getting built up for rock crawling.

So after we had finished up in the dunes we headed off home back through the narrow tracks. It was about 30-40min drive through the tracks where you have to tuck your mirrors in just to make sure they don't get totally scratched up. And the tracks being so narrow means you can't see around corners etc as most people would know. So naturally everyone goes pretty slow and just takes it easy. Well this wasn't the case for a few
guys that thought they were the ducks nuts.

So some poor young guys that were 5mins ahead of us in the track in their patrols were just cruising at about 25kmh (this is what they told us) all of a sudden seen a car through the bushes just before they rounded the corner. So they quickly hit the breaks. The guy coming towards them on the other had was absolutely flying along they said. And he also hit the breaks but obviously because he was going so fast the car didn't want to stop too quick. The guy in the patrol said he had come to a stop and seen the hilux still coming towards him even though we was on the breaks. Needless to say they had a head on! You could tell he was going quick because where they had the head on it was on the straight more so then the corner. Was pretty bad because the hilux hadn't washed off a lot of speed.
They both had steel bullbars and they both got pushed back into their bonnets. Hilux was worse. The patrol had to use his winch to pull the bullbar straight for the hilux because it was touching his tyres. And also the grill etc was all pushed in againt the fan so they pulled all that out too.
If the patrols weren't there I would have been they one that would have had the head on. I didn't have my flag up either. So next time the flag well definitely be going on.
It's just a reminder for people to take car on the tracks. And yeah try and make yourself as visible as possible or make yourself heard by beeping your horn coming around a blind corner. And just slow down mostly. What's the rush?

Jeez lucky it wasn't you. That is the exact reason why the City of a Wanneroo closed the south entrance track a couple of months ago.

Well guys its been along time since my last post. Since the last post i have acquired an official "Hand Brake" as some might say. So it has been a busy time. So now that things have settled im going to get back into modding the Prado! Only bad thing is now the Wife can see the bank accounts and see how much im spending on parts.....
Havent done anything since last post but i have ordered my self a set of HID spot lights and a 26" light bar. The spotties will be going in the normal spot but the light bar im planning to put in the bullbar.
On the commercial arb bars (Non winch) They have a big long slot just under where the spot lights go. So im planning to put it there. Probabaly not the most ideal spot but i dont want to be looking at the light bar on top of the bullbar. I got a slim line one which is i think 50mm high so should just fit in. Shoud give it a nice look too i think. Should get getting it this week so then i can fit it on the weekend and then post some pics up.

Also to come soon will be the stereo going back in my car. Just have to kit the kit to swap the radio from the bottom position to the top postion then i can put it all back in. Seen the kits on ebay and was just going to get that? because the stereo places want $400 for it. Any one else bought them off ebay?

Isn't that slot in the bar for air to get into the radiator?

                        Haha thanks blak moth
Your probably right with that gap being there for air to get in. I'm sure I have seen other bars though that don't have any gaps or or very minimal gap there. Might have to have a look into it now.

Well I got my HID spotties and light bar yesterday. Fitting them on the car already. Just have to wire the spots up the the high beam still. The light bar will just be switched from the dash and not hooked up with the high beam.
Fits well, and I like the way it looks and that it doesn't stand out but it obviously does close up that gap so it won't really get any air flow from there. But decided I'm going to get a new bash plate that has some nice vents on it like the ones from Brown Davis to help with air flow to the radiator. If air flow affects the cooling then the light bar will have to go.
Can't wait to test how much light they throw out. Hopefully get them hooked up on the weekend

Haha phil if I had the time I would give you a hand.
Mattfunk that's purely for legal reasons hey? I can still easily do so I just got the light bar more so for on tracks at night rather then having the spots on.
Either way I have them hooked up now. Can still change the light bar to come on with the high beam. The light bar is good. Throws a heap of light out. Real nice spread on it too. The spotties how ever I am not so happy with.
The spotties give off a lot of light. But the mounting/adjustment on them is shocking. They have a teeth system on it which is good so once it's there it can't really jump out of place. But being done teeth you can't get a good adjustment. Mine are either too low or too high. I had to put a packer under the mount to get it to shine in the right spot. And it's not easily adjustable because the one and only bolt the camps the spotties down is what you have to loosen to adjust the angle.
I got these online from BAP Off-road. I recommend everyone to stay clear of them because all of their spotties look like they have the same mount. And they do not sure they way it adjusts on any of the pictures.
I have tried to get a refund or get them swapped for something else but they won't have a bar of it even though there is a 30 day money back guarantee. So better to stay clear.
