When we went to buy the rooftop bag we bought these which can keep all the kids pens, books etc & sit their DVD players on , & food on the run . Will need them on the way to Tassie . Good little units

I scored a fire extinguisher recently off a mate(thanks again) & found some scrap ally laying about , drilled a couple of holes & gave it a quick spray . Mounted it above the second row seat on the drivers side as I figured that would be the safest & easiest place for a quick draw if needed. Now all minimum requirements ticked off for GTG

Do yourself and any passengers in your vehicle a favour, relocate the extinguisher behind your cargo barrier. That thing will pass straight through anyone's head in its path as it launches itself in a front end collision...

I tend to disagree. How quickly could you access it if it was on the other side?

I agree with Adrian. In a front on and probably a side collision i dont trust those retaining clips to hold the extinguisher. If it lets go and smacks you in the head you wont be capable of accessing it. Even if you mount it behind the barrier and take longer to access it its better than having a missile in the cab

Yep, my thinking when mounting it was the quickest access when needed, especially if the back was loaded to the ceiling ,but I do agree with Adrian & this will be getting put in the back. Thanks mate .

Will it fit on the step next to the 2nd row? I have see a few mounting it there.
Also under your legs just in front of the driver's seat. Needs a good strap (Quickfist maybe) so it won't interfere with the use of the pedals in an accident.

It's a 1.5 kg I think so it's a bit too big for the step & my girls 4 & 5 would probably want to know what the pin is for. I'll have a look at the floor option as well
                      Thanks Matt

                        • Just a quick one on this topic, have any of you seen the bracket for this fire extinguisher fail before? The fire extinguisher in question is designed for in vehicle fitment, along with its specific bracket. I can see what you are all saying if it did come out, but this style of fitment is fine for many government departments and I can't see it coming out if fitted into its bracket properly. I personally have had this exact model extinguisher fitted in my last two vehicles in the exact same fashion. Never had it come loose, rattle or anything, and this includes countless crazy off-road adventures in my old Landcruiser and God knows how many corrugations. At the end of the day if you are more comfortable mounting it on the other side go for it, but either side of the barrier is fine. A can of baked beans sitting on the back seat is more dangerous in an accident, cause it will definatly go flying. Just a bit of "food" for thought

                          • Mine is secured next to the right rear seat - safe and easy for me to get to. On the other side is my EPIRB.

That is definatly a fire extinguisher that should NOT be mounted up on the cargo barrier, bracket type is the important thing here.
