  • RanJs Gutless Wonder 90

Figured it was time to post up a build thread. This rig is not really an offroader. More of a middle of the night highway crawler and mobile toolbox (many of my customers are in remote locations)

    View from the cockpit

Constant plastic passenger that has gotten a few screams in supermarkets and with unsuspecting passengers as we go around a corner and he slides out along the dash..

So, I'll update this post and the next several with some more pictures and also a list of mods that have been made and that are in the pipes.

No real mechanical mods but the electrical mods in this can rival a 150!

    Current modifications...
Sony double din in dash with Navigation
    Parrot CK3100 bluetooth handsfree
    Pioneer 12" SUbwoofer
Clarion dual channel amplifier for subwoofer
    Pioneer 4channel
Polk Audio MM components for front doors
Polk Audio MM co-axials in back doors
Head rest 7" screens in OEM head rests (not cheap replacement crap)
Single din DVD player mounted in the rear of the overhead console for the teens to control
600Watts of Halogen light on the roof (tried HID and LED... prefer Halogen)
7" on dash screen for constantly powered rear camera and front camera
    Reverse sensors
    Active phone cradle
Uniden UHF mounted in overhead console
VT-VX Commodore interior light with map lights at front of overhead console
Complete LED interior lighting and super white LED dash lighting
H4 HID retrofit with focal point adjustment
Rear outlet socket converted to constant power with a low battery auto cutoff
800W pure sinewave inverter with a double GPO outlet installed in the rear and inverter hidden away.

    Viper 3102 Alarm controls... http://www.vipersecurity.com.au/prod...ecurity-system
triple stage unlocking with rear door seperate unlock
    Back-up battery siren
    Back-up battery for alarm
    Shock sensor
    Tilt sensor
Interior lights come on when unlocking and when ignition is off.
Headlights switch on for 30 secs with ignition off
Headlights and roof lights can be switched on via remote control
Retained accessory power (accessory circuit stays powered up after removing key and until drivers door is opened and then closed)

However, since all of this has been added over a period of time and the wiring under the dash and engine is a bit of a hodge podge of crap. I'm going to park the Prado up for a week or two soon in the new workshop we just opened in the Melbourne CBD (yes, bragging hehe) and remove absolutely everything and start afresh. I have considered using the Narva and Jaycar fuseblocks but have infact decided against that and will be sourcing some fuse blocks from other vehicles at the wreckers and locating an extra one in the engine bay and one under the dash. This way, I can keep all the same type of fuses (except for stereo main) and just make everything so much neater.

I will be removing the Viper alarm all together and replacing it with a Viper Remote Start http://www.vipersecurity.com.au/prod...h-remote-start
I will keep all the features the old one gave me and gain a few more.

I also have waiting to be installed a Viper passive keyless entry kit that will automatically arm and disarm the Prado as I approach it http://www.vipersecurity.com.au/prod...-keyless-entry

and added on top of this will be a Push to Start module that will eliminate the need for a key altogether and ignition barrel will be removed. Much like the 150 series.

Finally on top of that will the automatic window roll up and down module.

Lol, nah when I do that I'll pull it off the road for a week to plow my way through it during slow times and after hours. Currently accumulating all the small bits and pieces. Have the main products but all the relays, multicore wiring and final layout and routing is still to be finalized.

Push to Start happened a few days ago! Almost ready to ditch the key altogether!

                  Prado Push to Start conversion:

Video up and running... clicky clicky for 150 goodness in a dirty but trusty 90!

The last 5 years the car has had one accessory added after another. Then stuff removed... then added or moved. Consequently the under hood and dash wiring is a nightmare and i can no longer follow what's going on.

I have just finished removing... EVERYTHING!

Now to reinstall cleaner and neater. Also grabbed a relay and fuse panel from an old commodore to help with the cleaning.

I just did that too, and used big split loom to bundle it all together but where it goes into the panel it still looks messy to me. How can I neaten up the final six inches of wire?
