This is a great post Yota and I was keen for some advise.

I bought a standard 2001 GXL TD and have since added an ARB bar; Safari snorkel; duel batteries and fridge. Many of the other goodies you have added are on my wish list.

    1. How much improvement for the money did the suspension upgrade bring? (I have standard suspension with < 70K on clock) What other options than Tough Dog did you consider?

    2. Do the lightforce 170's get much of a work-out? They're great but expensive. Good value for money?

    3. How have the cooper st's performed? Did you up the size to 75R16's when you upped the suspension or keep the standard 70R16's?

    4. If you were starting again, what order of improvements would give most bang for my bucks.

    Thanks
    JB

The upgrade was great, its pretty hard in the back end, but when its packed for a trip or has the camper on its 200% better.

Have had hella's on my last 2 4wds, the first time I turned the lightforce on I was very impressed. Im quite fond of traveling a night so I think the lights are worth it, Horses for courses really.

Have had no problems with the coopers, kept to the 70R16's as I got the tyres before the lift. Am thinking of 75R16's STT's for the next set.

      4. If you were starting again, what order of improvements would give most bang for my bucks.
Suspension would be pretty high on the list I think. changes the handeling of the car for the better. Lights & 2ways becouse I like driving at night.

Powered retractable mirrors is something i really wish Mr Toyota had as a standard thing. They have them in japan for the tight car spaces that they have over there.

It sure as hell would have saved me $400...

                        Hey Yota,

Really enjoyed your write up there. Just wondering, have you got any pics of your solar panels? if you ever installed any??

Looking into these at the moment.

I gave up on mounting the solar panel, the three batterys are doing a pretty good job on their own.
While up at Moreton a 1 hour drive each day was enough to keep the fridge battery toped up, and if we park up for a day and let the battery go down I can just plug the fridge into the winch battery.

For our next trip up to Birdsville in Sep. I will have a spare and a swag on the roof, so no room for the solar panel.

                                Built rear door table
Only built half shelf so I could still get to the fridge

Removed back seat and built shelf
built this using square aluminiam tube and hammer in corners, its strong enough for our use, I have layed on it and tried to shake it around so it must be pretty strong.

                                Blue light force covers
Hopefuly these will reduce some of the glare off the driving lights

                                Micky Thomson MTZ's
Replaced the 265/70R16 Cooper ST's with 267/75R16 Micky Thomson MTZ's. only problem with this was I couldnt get out of the garage after I had fitted them as the eye nuts on the roof rack cliped the roler door. Replaced the eye nuts with standard nyloc nuts and it just fits, but only forward, the roof rack still clips the door if I try to back in.
