My Rig

Been a long time so I thought – here we go.
Not everything in order of doing.
2008 VX Turbo Diesel Auto
Updated from our original 2006 GXL TD Manual.
Only option was tinted windows and the Safari Snorkle.
Then the mods started.
Front nudge bar made from some 2” pipe and elbows. Spot light mounts and UHF mount. Later replaced with an ARB Sahara bar, colour coded.




Glind hot water shower.



Second battery. Also several attempts of getting the cables right.




Rear fuse box.

First raise kit was a set of OME raised rear springs from the old 120 and machined up a couple of spacers for the front. This worked really well surprisingly. Later replaced with Bilstein and Kings Standard raised on bottom clip. Later added airbag man bags to the rear coils.






ARB Sahara Bar with 9000lb Magnum winch.



Glind Hot Water unit.

ARB Diff and compressor. Added the copper lines for heat sink as the poly lines kept melting.



Rear receiver tank.
Two airlines running to the back of the car.
1. Direct to fitting on towbar
2. From compressor valve to rear receiver tank and then via a ‘OR’ valve to the fitting on the towbar.




Racor 2 micron fuel filter.
Custom bracket.



Provent Catch can.

BFG 265-70-17 All terrain

Second set of mags from a Hilux fitted with 265-70-17 BFG Mud Terrains.



Radio’s.
GME3540.
Codan NGT.

TPMS. 2 units with a total of 13 sensors. Each unit does the 5 car tyres and 3 trailer tyres.
Scan gauge II. 2 units daisy chained.



Monitor the following

Auto box temp
Torque converter temp
Instant L/100
Volts
Unit 2
Engine temp
Boost
L/100 Trip
L/100 tank.


Torque Converter Lock Kit. – designed and made by my son who is a 4th year Electrical Engineer. Push button to lock and brake lights on to cancel.




QMCC floor mats.

Custom Storage System. 2 fridges, Trailblazer 60lt and a 39Lt Autofridge. Both on slides. Only one in the car at a time.


Removable top section to allow for our Border Collie (Billy) to come with us, which is most of the time.

Old rears had cracks. Didn’t know until they were off the car.

How does your tpms preform with the trailer on? Do you have an extension lead for the antenna and the antenna located closer to the trailer?
Reason I ask, my digoptions unit randomly loses signal from the trailer sensors.

The TPMS unit dos not need an extension lead. I have two head units with the 5 tyres from the car and three trailer on the first unit and the 5 mud tyres and the three trailer tyres on the second head. Need to have a good tyre fitter as the sensors can easily be damaged as we found in Moree a couple of years ago.

If the tyre has no changes in temperature or pressure after 30 minutes the head unit shows nothing for that tyre. Took a while to understand this.

Ok that explains it, the manual does state if signal is lost from a wheel then it will alarm, which mine hasn't done when it happens. Strange though it is only either one of the trailer sensors that blank out, that's why I reasoned I might need to relocate the antenna to the rear of the car. Does yours do it with the car sensors at all? It's a bit disconcerting when it happens as it shows no battery or radio signal for that wheel. Could have been better explained in the Taiwenglish manual..

At one point last trip I dropped the air pressure in the wheel that had blanked and it did alarm low pressure.
Btw I have all 5 car wheels monitored and and 3 on the camper as well. I fitted mine at home and swapped a couple of tyres onto the trailer rims at the same time. Do good tyre fitters really exist?

Been dong a heap of work on the Pearl (100 series). OK its not a Prado but thats OK.

The storage system consists of a large draw on the LHS and will have a false floor in it of 100mm. Draw is 320mm deep.
Fridge slide is the same as the Prado and can move from car to car.




Fold down sandwich board.



Billy ready to go.



Took to long so sleep in order.

Other mods to date:

Kaymar twin wheel carrier.

Beaudesert 3" exhaust with 4' dump.





Bilstein all round.
King springs in the rear.
Airbag man in the rear coils.
Lower arm strengthening plates.
182 L fuel tank to replace the old 50L. Gives a total of 270L of diesel. Enough to get from Brisbane to Melbourne towing the camper with some left.
Third battery (N70) under bonnet with switchable to have 2 start or 2 for the fridge.
Rear fuse box.
Anderson plugs every where.
Codan on the RHS wheel carrier.


Will be keeping the Prado for a while, the 100 will stay in the shed for camping weekends and annual trips.
