yeah cheers Mark. she looks a lot better, but i wouldn't wanna add up the receipts would probably have a heart attack. Some of the guys on here go all out with the mods too, would be scary to see how much some spend on their trucks!haha... im happy for now though.. gotta draw a line somewhere....

Nice Nigel. I like the idea of those TJM seat covers too. Our little one is always getting in the car wet these days, not great for the lambswool seat covers!

Cheers Spike69, I looked at your build up thread a few times as you had the BFGs too and I liked the look of them on your truck which swayed me away from the Dueler 697s which I initially was going to go with.. I had the KO 2 on a previous 80 series but didn't know how they'd suit the Prado due to the more aggressive side wall compared to the original KO that I had on my old prado. So cheers for the inspiration I guess haha

Nice Rig. I've seen you down the Beach and around Goolwa a bit. (Property near there too).
265/70 not legal in SA but most cops wont pick you for it. Its just insurance worries in a claim situation. I had mine engineered by a Bloke at Goodwood. All legal now.

Cheers Piggy, what sort of cost involved in getting it engineered? I see most Prados that are modded running 265/70 , wonder how many people worry about it? Cheers for the feedback.

                    Nigelh's Black 120 D4D

                    $300 from memory.
Probably not a lot worry. Until they have an accident and the insurance company refuses to pay out due to illegal compliance. Then they will worry a bit 😂

My 120 needed some insurance work after a paint damage issue. Was a fairly big job. Roughly $10k. The assessor picked the larger tyres and queried it, as non legal. I showed them the new compliance papers. All sweet.
Would this have given them a reason to not pay out? Yes. Discussed it at length, even though tyres and running gear had zilch to do with the paint damage or how it was even caused..
They will and can use any reason they want to not pay out.

threw in a new Unifilter today.....i bought a K&N a week before but took it out and went bck to standard....then i found out about Uni Filters....so i got one from FNB 4WD in Mount Barker here in SA and fitted it but not without running my own side by side comparo first....

My impressions, no "google facts" the Uni filter is claimed to have much better fine filtration than the standard paper filter, i think a finer micron rating than the standard but just a shade under the K&N for air flow....

For the seat of the pants test i drove the Prado a week with the K&N.... very ,very responsive especially down low in the rev range from 1200rpm up to gear changes but i found it revved out a bit quicker than usual probably due to lack of restriction and was very loud in the snorkel / intake.. a loud spool plus sucking noise, almost unbearable with the window down....great if you have a big 4.2td running 3 inch straight through and you're 20 years old but i'm 41 and like a quiet, refined ride..
i put this down obviously to the low air resistance but unfortunately it may also be the well documented poor filtration which is a risk off-road for the cautious / slight OCD tech heads like myself. therefor i took it out and went back to the standard paper one...almost silent and no real difference in normal performance...

next was the first drive with the UNI Filter in.... very responsive down low, a little more so called suction pressure with the thicker element, leading to a more smoother/ linear rpm build up, nice whistle through the snorkel, yup love that but not as loud as the K&N.... as you can see in the pics, its a little thicker element than the K&N and foam as well as the nylon (or what ever it is).. with the K&N just the nylon type filter, you could hold the K&N up and see through it, not so with the Uni-Filter which also fits snug in the air box, just like standard one. The K&N was also a little sloppy fit with a few mm gaps on either side which was also a concern.
I do a bit of off roading, mostly on beaches and dirt roads and i feel safe with this filter in....OK... if i was to do a Kimberley / Cape trip id probably run the standard paper filter in but for real life everyday driver use, this thing is the goods...
as you can see, side by side you can see the dimensional difference between the three.

Standard on the left, Uni Filter in the middle and K&N on the right.
                          cheers guys.

                              Love your work Nigel.
                              One question if I may?
What size is the awning that comes off your roof rail.
(I am thinking of getting a 2.5 long and 3 metres out from car but wondering if 3 metres is too long.

i think its 2.5 x 2.5. standard ARB one. 500mm wouldnt make much difference i reckon.
