Re: Flicker - 120 Build Up by Prado BB

Well after researching a number of stone guard options, I have decided to start with a rear window guard and then consider other options to augment this and protect the CT and the rear of the 4WD. Anyway, I thought others might be interested in this DIY option.

Step One - measured the rear window and ordered the perspex to pre-cut to size.

Cleaned out the garage and found these lying around. Perfect for fittings.

Bought some chair stops to creat an air gap (shown stuck on the back of the perspex).

Fittings mounted (drilled holes through perspex)

Finished Product (straps have been since cut down)

    Cost....$76

Good mod there Andy. Obvious question here sorry! Have you considered putting a bit of rubber lining on your top and bottom hooks to stop them rubbing through the paint or do you already have some on there that I can't see?

Hey Bigfella (good to hear from you)

The hooks are coated with a plastic shield. They were off an old bike rack that I used to hook onto the back of my old sports car (before the kids came along.....) and cart my mountain bike around and they never damaged the paint. I see how it goes. The bottom ones I have wrapped in electrical tape, until I find some small bits of rubber. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Rob, they are bolted to the plastic. I will upload a photo as I realise the ones I posted don't really illustrate it.

Took delivery of my stone stomper guard yesterday, installed today to test for fit etc. Very happy
This now offers me a degree of comfort against damage to not only the Jayco but the back of the Prado from stones being deflected back onto it.

I'm happy with it for touring duties, but I would go with steel if I were using the car for more offroad use. The biggest issue with the T15 offroad is the hudge over hang to accomodate the winch cradle. Not sure if the T13 suffers from the same problem.

                    Hope this helps

Fitted new Rhino bars and cage/rack today. Nice and light and best of all, we can still get into the local plazza car park :P :P

I could be wrong but i don't think they make that old bar (type 15)anymore.

The rig is looking good Prado BB.
