  • The linear movement mixed with sand, water and mud while being under load when changing gears is what concerns me.

If it was a clean environment i wouldn't be too concerned.

        cheers mate.

there are other builds with more pages than mine. lol.

we all started somewhere, but i guess it's always a matter of how well the money tree grows.

          • How much meat is there on the inner race of the throwout bearing. The suggestion on the other thread to use a stainless sleeve is a good one. You would only need to go for 1mm thick stainless, though it would have to be made perfectly. That would require 2mm machined from the inner diameter of the bearing.

            • ID of the bearing is 35mm
OD of the centre section is 39mm

2mm wall thickness, less 1mm of machining?

              would that work?

if i machine the snout to fit a 35mm OD SS sleeve, the snout may loose strength and crack or break?

              • Yes it would work if the stainless was bonded to the snout, 1mm of stainless is heaps stronger than the 1mm of aluminium it replaces. You would need a glue suitable for the temperature and 0.5mm clearance or thereabouts for the glue to sit. Just not sure what access you have to a machine shop to do both jobs because it has to be right. Is machining the bearing ID a possibility? No idea if it is a conventional hardened inner race or not.

                    • finally back in the bush with the prado. just a nice tame sunday drive to get back into the groove.

all i can say is that the new clutch is absolutely awesome!!! the extra clamping is unbelieveable. plus the pedal is twice as light now.

i was also having trouble finding a place to get a wheel up. i might try harder next time.

                        • cheers mate.

i'm actually trying to build up a mini me of sorts. this is basically a preservation of life (the 120) project.
this will be the hardcore, not giv-a-shit if i fill it up with water '120', or if it feels tired, i won't be too worried if it lies down on its side for a sleep.

so it's white, 5 doors with a rear swing out door and the spare on it, just like the 120.
