    • I bought an engine saver low coolant alarm for the Prado, have a look here. http://www.enginesaver.com.au/

Seems like a good unit, easy to fit to the D4D as it is model specific. Like all wiring jobs a little fiddly getting wires through the firewall, and of course the consol had to come out...... again, as I mounted the unit unerneath. It has both an audible alarm and a light, they both operate a test signal each time you turn on the ignition. Hopefully I never need it, but its there if I do.

The sender unit screws in to the top of the overflow tank after removing the bung, the light can be fitted pretty much anywhere you are happy to drill a hole and the alarm is just tied under the consol.

      Cheers Andrew

        • Ipad Mount

After having no end of trouble with my "Dodgyoptions GPS" a new solution was needed for navigation, Trish decided that the Ipad with VMS would be the go so thats we got, then it was just up to me to mount it somehow!

We wanted to mount it so it was
Easily removable / including any mounting hardware.
It had to be visable and usable by both Driver and Passenger
Didn't want to drill holes in any visible part of the dash, floor or consol.
Didn't want it to obscure the in dash GPS as we still use the reverse camera and street navigation on that unit.

We thought of everything from having it drop down from a roof consol, Ram mount from the windscreen, ram mount from the floor. Eventually we decided the only suitable place to fit it was directly below the radio in front of the air conditioner controls, so this meant also making a system so we could easily access the air con controls as well.

So heres what I have come up with. I made an arm that mounts under the cigarette lighter next to the ashtray that was curved upwards with pivot on the end, with a quick action camlock so we can fold the Ipad forward in a few seconds to access the air con controls.

I will put up a heap of pics to show you all, but will need to wait until better light tomorrow to get a few more.

First up the arm and how I got the bend, made from 13mm SHS

Obviously I welded the slots and ground it all smooth for a pretty neat bend.

I made the cam lock which took a fair bit of time.

And the base of the ashtray area needed to be stronger so I plated it on both side with 2.5mm aluminium sheet, with a slight bend on opposing sides, top and bottom for added strength.

Thats my 4 pics so I will continue in another post.

          Cheers Andrew

          • To hold the mounting arm I made an aluminium housing to bolt under the reinforced dash, then a locking plate and a couple of aluminum knobs to tighten it up. I will have to add some Knurling to the knobs as they are pretty hard to get a grip on, need to buy a knurling tool for the lathe first though. I also made nylon washers for between the plate and the knob for a smooth tighten up.

I did tidy up the rounded end of the mounting arm, it looks a bit rough in that pic.

The Ipad holder that I got from Ebay needed a bit of extra strength IMO, so I added some more 2.5 mm aluminum to the back of it, held on with double sided tape (see Madkores comment next post) and also the screws that go through the swivel brackets also help attach the reinforcing.

All it needs now is a bit of a clean up and some paint to make it look nice!

            Cheers Andrew
