Re: Rogerthats VX D4D Prado 150

My VX is still leaning too, it is sitting at 30mm to the driver side at the rear. I notice it when driving. I tried to correct it by cranking up the air pressure in the polyair on the driver side, but it only got to within 15mm and it made the ride uncomfortable.

Did Toyota bleed the system or just open the valves and rock the car? Bleeding the system involves hooking it up to a high pressure hydraulic pump which only Toyota can do. They have done this to mine with no joy, although I have my doubts as to whether it was done properly.

I wonder if Land Rover have the same issue?
There is nothing wrong with the KDSS (well apart from the lean), it is fantastic and one of the main reasons why I bought the VX. The lean is not there whilst driving, we have checked this many times, it is only there when parked. Given the chance I would buy and do the same again however it does annoy we seeing it lean when parked. Not sure about the Landrover, did not know it has KDSS.
Someone more technically minded will probably argue the point, but I think the basic principles of how KDSS works are similar to the suspension system that later model Land Rover Discovery's have.

Over in this thread, it shows that ARB specifies a trim packer for the front driver's side to get the correct trim height for their OME suspension. I assume this is to correct the lean that vehicles with KDSS has.

I'm curious to know why the lean is only evident when parked? And is it wise to put in the trim packer because when driving, you will have the front driver's corner slightly higher.

We thought about using a spacer (the TJM Gold Struts have a 10 & 20mm spacer supplied in the kit) to try and lift the front up, and it does work however we thought we would see if it correct itself. The last thing I wanted to do was to try and force it to sit correctly as the KDSS may work against itself. Since our trip to Fraser Island, it is now sitting dead level. We will see how ling it lasts.

Re: Rogerthats VX D4D Prado 150

I do not believe the lean is only visible when parked as I definitely notice it when driving.

I have had my lift on for months and it has not levelled out.
I spoke to ARB about the packer and they reckon that the trim packer is the only way to level out the KDSS Prado.
The trim packer effectively increases the pre-tension on the coil to gain more height.
I can achieve the same thing by lowering the circlip on my passenger Bilstein to the middle circlip (currently both are in the highest position.)
This will bring the passenger front down 10mm and should see both driver side come up and the rear passenger down as a result of the minor weight transfer.
I may also add a packer to the driver rear.

Will let you know how I go!

Re: Rogerthats VX D4D Prado 150

Well I can report that the lean is corrected. I dropped the passenger front circlip to the middle slot and the ride heights are now:
                FP 810, FD 810
                RP 835 FD 830.
This is with the 18 inch wheels. I have 65mm of droop on the front. I will re-measure in a week.

You said earlier on that you were getting some Outback Ideas front recovery points. Have you fitted them, and if so, any chance of a pic?

Also, can you tell me what the useable span of your roof racks is i.e. distance between locking covers from one side of the car to the other. How do you mount your MaxTrax to the racks?

                  Thanks,

                  Mike

Sorry Mick, forgot to reply. I did not end up fitting the points, looked way to hard for something that in my opinion is already on the car and just as good. I will use an equaliser strap but. The racks have about 12cm of plastic from the inside edge of the OE rail, not sure of the usable area but enough room for me to mount the awning, 4 fishing rods and 2 pairs of Maxtrax. I strap the maxtrax down using a pair of the $16 rhino rack straps, same sort of thing as a fridge strap. They are 1.5m long and come as a pair.

Hope this helps, any other questions you know where to find me, cheers Dan.

Re: Rogerthats VX D4D Prado 150

I have finally started and almost finished my mud flap fix for the crap rear Toyota mud flaps. I have used SR Toyota 05+ Hilux Rear Mudflaps. I have cut off part of the top of the Hilux Mud Flap and will bolt on the Hilux mud flaps behind the OE Prado mud flaps. They will be bolted on using 4 phillips head cup head bolts, washer, spring washer and square nut all painted black with Kill Rust, hopefully that should keep them on and secure.

The part number of the Hilux Flaps I have used are 76626-OKO30 & 76625-OKO30. When finished, hopefully tomorrow it should look a little like this...

I will post some more images tomorrow once I have finished and the paint has dried including a rule showing what the new deflection should be from the rear tyre. I also believe they should almost look like part of the car, fingers crossed.

                              Cheers Daniel
