  • Mine has done the same thing before, Glen. What if you hammer that plate so that it's actually curved into the fuel tank?
Might get under there this weekend and check all the nipples again and possibly regrease as it's due anyway. Last time I checked under there, about 4 of my nipples had just disappeared.

    • I'd leave the bolt in there Glen. I just put a nipple in there to grease it each service then put the bolt back. The bolt is that small and short it makes no difference to tailshaft balance. I also notched out a small section of the bash plate.
      Cheers, Ben.

Geaaazz man, how could 4 dissapear?! Too loose?

Yeah I've had the plate curved to the tank before, and very close to the tank, but over time it moves, from the impacts. Have to keep checking it's condition after the hard driving days!

Good idea! Might even replace it with screwdriver-driven bolt with a rounded head, so there's less chance of getting caught up. The torque setting for these are very low anyway.

Eventually I'll replace this weak protection with a heavier duty custom plate.

This is before I started doing my own servicing so they obviously weren't checking on them. When it started an annoying vibration, I read online that a common fault was they weren't getting greased. When I got under there, they were missing. Part of the reason why I do my own services now - I know what's actually getting down and how/when. All good now though!

            • Any update on the fuel consumption averages?

              • LOL, Jason.

My latest figure was 17.9 L / 100km over the course of around 3 tanks (200L maybe??). It covered spirited driving around the suburbs and 2 separate days of hard 4x4 on rocks. Can't say those figures are low but I have been using the throttle and enjoying it. Back at Xmas I did manage around 11L on the F3, which was my personal best, ever - so it can be more efficient than N/A if driven carefully.

BTW, the upgraded sway bar disconnects are holding up well. The front upper bushings are wearing but I guess that happens over time.

Glad to hear they are doing ok.
If anyone is going to find the limits of them in their 95 Series, it'll be your vehicle wit the flex it has

                    • advise for upgrade

                      Hi everyone,

I have a Prado 3 door version and I would like to instal a suspension lift from OME of about 2 to 3 inches. I was wondering if someone could advise the tire size that I could use after this adjustment. At this time I have 265/70 R16 installed and I am looking into 265/75R16 or 275/70 R16. They would be Bf Goodrich allterrain.

                      any suggestions?

                      thanks

                      • You will have no problems fitting a 265/75 as I had these on both my Prado 95 series the other size I can't say for sure. At a rough guess I would say yes as it's only slightly wider but not taller as the profile is still a 70 same as factory..... I would imagine if you want any bigger then 75 then body lift will start to come into it. I know with my 75's they only just cleared every thing. Maybe 3 inch will clear but then it won't be a simple with the lift you will probably need a diff drop kit to keep the cv angles sweet then also extended brake lines etc. I'm not 100% sure on a 3 inch lift what the the extra things required would be over a 2 inch. Wait till Glenn the guru comes along he will fill you in on anything thing required for a lift...... Cheers Steve

                        • I don't see why a 3 door would be any different suspension wise so the common thing for the 90/95 series is 2" lift with 265/75/16. That's what I'm running on Micky Thompson ATZ 4 Rib.

Anymore then 2" lift though and you might start having issues with the CV's as you'll be starting to push them to their limits.

                          EDIT: Beaten! Haha!

                          • Hey Glen, I'm a little worried about our fuel consumption. We just did a trip (fully loaded with a trailer) and got 17-18L/100km. It's due for a spark plug and fuel filter change as well as a regular service. Do you think that will help?
Even without the load we had, our fuel usage doesn't seem to change and I've been driving like a grandma trying to get it down. I do have a roof rack but nothing normally in it. Anything else I should do to change it? I cleaned the MAF and reset the computer thinking that might help but it didn't. I run 98 or 95 fuel. The thing that worries me is how much it revs out trying to do 100km/h up smallish hills.
Considering your setup compared to mine, I just thought I should be getting a little lower?

                            • Ratsack that's probably about right for that vehicle. My old V6 90- running around town was pretty much 17.2L per 100 guaranteed, towing was about the same, without towing but on the open road was about 12.2L per 100. Considering your load sounds about right to me. and yeah they like to rev when pulling hard....Cheers Steve EDIT sorry should have mentioned I had steel winch bar, 75 profile tyres A/T's, fridge etc but no roof rack of any sort....

                              • I'd be stoked to get those figures. 31L/100km over the last couple of days!
                                Worth every cent
                                Cheers Ben.
