As a professional photographer I use Capture One Pro 6 - from the makers of the Phase One digital backs. You are able to process into tiff, jpeg, Quickproofs (low res jpegs) and for web, including making web galleries. Always try to shoot Raw and process into Tiffs - Jpegs lose quality every time that you open them. You are able to now make adjustments to jpegs and tiffs with Capture One 6.

Almost every professional photographer in Australia uses this software apart from those using Sinar cameras and software. It also supports most raw formats. I shoot with Phase One backs, Canon 1Ds Mk3 and Nikon D2x. I have used most editing software and C1 Pro 6 is miles ahead of all of them. Just my 2 cents.

      Hi MaIG,
A bit of a broad statement that... I agree Capture 1 Pro is a great bit of software but no, almost every photographer in Australia does not use it...
I know the photog scene pretty well here in BNE and i'd say it's a 50/50 split between Capture 1 and Adobe ACR/Bridge/Photoshop. That's commercial/Advertising/fashion/product/portrait/architectural/ types and everything in between.

I also know a decent amount who use Phocus, and not only the Hasselblad users... a few use Lightroom but most of those combine that with Photoshop for heavy post production.

If I shot more with the client looking over my shoulder that would be where I'd probably move to Capture One while shooting tethered as it's annoying that using PS I have to rely on Canon's Capture to shoot tethered.

PS's ACR has allowed you to tweak jpeg's and Tiff's as early as CS4, maybe earlier but not sure.

I must have a dud 1Ds MkIII as I'll use my 5D mkII and now my 5D mkIII over the 1Ds mkIII on most jobs.
Canon pissed me off bigtime that a $12,000 Pro camera was replaced by a $4000 Pro-sumer camera. I'd only had the 1Ds mkIII for about 3 months when the 5D mkII came out but thankfully the 1D had paid for it's self a couple of time over already.

I miss the disciplined approach that the Phase 1 brought to a shoot but with the file size and quality of modern SLR's I can't justify the expence of a Med Format back again.
      Cheers, Leon

I use Aperture and it's awesome for 95% of everything; great results, easy to use (be prepared that Aperture eats into RAM so limit multitasking). It works seemlessly with Photoshop CS5 which I use to crop/resize pictures for the web. It goes without saying that Photoshop is extremely capable if needed.

I have started using Paintshop Pro X2. I managed to get my hands on a full version for free so i thought why not. It takes a bit to get your head around to start with but i am fairly happy with the quick fixes that can be done to photos.

I've been using Photoshop 7.0 for years now, I keep saying I'll upgrade but I haven't found anything that suits me better. I'm used to it and the workhorse nature of it without frills and gimmicy stuff is enough for me...

              Hey plado...
If you're using it for work... or even serious amature stuff you'll see heaps of differences between PS7 and the current CS generations.
My mum uses my old PC version of PS7... she makes it work for her but I watch her use it and think how much easier the new versions are.

Anyway... spoke with a wedding and portrait photographer today and she's happily working away with CS2 so each to their own I guess.

Yep, CS6 was a huge jump in the RAW converter...
But now Lightroom is available in the 'cloud' downloads so might see if I can incorporate that into my workflow to get some sort of cataloguing system happening.

If you are looking for a bit of software to make a high quality slide show ,
I just "acquired" a copy of Proshow Producer by photodex to suit window 7 64bit
I was looking for a easy to use bit of software for slide shows with music to save to USB and watch on a HD TV
So far it looks great .You can save a finished slide shows in just about any format .At full resolution
                          My Favorite . Mpeg-4 H264 1080p which would also suit a gopro .
                          I also tried
Sony Vegas Pro 12 (Not user friendly)
Photstage Slide show ( Wouldn't save in to save in HD but good for editing )
                          Wondershare DVD slide show builder
                          Photo pad Image editor
                          Magic Story

                          Cheers Russ

I use Lightroom for cataloging/organising, and basic editing.

If I need to do any more serious editing I use Capture NX2. A bit clunky bit it has some good features.

If you have access to it, or already have the full suite, then Adobe Premier. If you don't have access to it, then it's not a cheap solution.
