Well, the Awards dinner was held in Sydney (here at the moment) on Tuesday Night and I'm pleased to say I was an equal first Eureka Prize winner
So, I have a nice trophy to take home and a nice bit of cash in the bank account!
It was a great night, black tie, with a few interesting people there - Kate Blanchet being the most recognised I guess. Found it quite funny that a simple bloke from Tas got to rub shoulders with some of the big wigs of science.
Had the head of ABC TV find me and ask me if I'm available for running some high speed vid cameras for them at some stage and met a few other people that might help me get a job in the next few months. Anyway, it was worth the trip up to Sydney from Melb. Heading off today to Jindabyne, camping along the snowy for a few days, and where ever else we end up.
Cheers, Phil.
Not related to Prado's whatsoever but I'm pretty excited so thought I'd share it here.
I've been selected as one of six finalists for the Eureka Science Awards New Scientist Science Photography Award.
The winner gets $5K and there are a few more K spread over 2nd & 3rd. The winner is announced at the Eureka Gala Dinner along with winners of the other 15 or so awards on 18 August.
This is the pic that did it:

It's a pic of a modeling balloon being burst with a needle while it's underwater. The sound triggered the flash at 1/7500th second or thereabouts.
Despite the fact it's a fun sort of pic to make, there's a lot of information scientists gather from photos like this for working out how pressure vessel explosions work etc.
Anyway - that's my excitement for the next few weeks!
